Who does not care for the Regent?

I have a Regent and do not like it that much. The only reason that I own this seat is because of the high weight limit and the harness height. Maybe the more I use the Regent maybe I will like it better. It is so funny because I have the FPSVD installed in my car and the Regent is nice and safe in my apartment (LOL).

For me it depends on which DC we're talking about... I  the Regent/Huskies for my 2 oldest (9 & almost 8), but hate it for my 4 y/o (he's getting a MA for the less than 3" of growth room, that's how poorly the Regent fits him..) It seems to me that the Regent fills a definite niche, and works WONDERFULLY to EH older kids, but It's not my 1st choice seat for toddlers/smaller kids . Not to even mention the width, and difficult/complicated install issues.....:twocents:

Sorry, we love our Regent. We have a pre-advisory model, which gives me more flexibility in installation. (For instance, if we had a new model, I couldn't have it installed LPB w/o recline bar for my 47 lb. DS. But it's the ONLY way I can install it in my 1998 Escort.)

That said, especially now that the Nautilus and other HWH seats are available, the Regent is definitely "too much seat" for some kids. Including my DS when we bought the Regent at age 5.5 - I would surely have bought a $150 Nautilus instead of a $280 Regent if it had been available then.

I don't often specifically recommend the Regent unless someone has a particularly large child.

I wasn't very happy with it when I moved my 4yo from his Boulevard to it. He has low tone, so he's very slumpy, and when he sleeps, there was NO head support. He looked VERY uncomfy. We got him a Frontier last week and he LOVES it. I really really like it, too. I found it to be VERY easy to install, I don't get the problems. Of course I guess that dpends on your vehicle, but I had a VERY hard time installing both a Boulevard and the SS1 in this vehicle, but the Frontiers were no problem. (It's an '08 Kia Sedona rental while our van's in the shop.)

I  my Regent! (Sorry!)

It is very close to being the ONLY seat that my 4.5 yo dd fits in. She is incredibly tall. We just bought a R65 for dh's truck for her, and she has ONE INCH of growing room left!:mad: Thankfully, she is only on the 3rd slot on her Regent, so it will last for quite a while.

I did have a really difficult time getting it installed (LBP - she's only 35lbs) because the seatbelt was almost too short and it is a HUGE seat, so I can see the downsides of it. But, if it weren't for this seat, dd would be moving to a booster way before she is ready. :)

We love our Regent. Of course we have a super long torso child who likes to have lots of room so the Regent is our best choice.

I didn't care for it. It did not install well in our vehicle and it swallowed my DD, she's 41/2, but weighs about 35#. She had horrible head slump in it when sleeping. And I didn't like how heavy it was, as we needed to remove it periodically and I HATED having to take that seat out. I know many people love it, it just didn't work well for us. We traded it for a TF and so far she has plenty of growing room (3rd slots). If she outgrows that too soon, then we'll get to buy another seat, which I :love:doing!

Love the Husky, hate the Regent.

Ease of install is one of my main priorities, and the Regent gave that up. I loved that the Husky was so flexible in that. "Oh, the short belt path doesn't work in your car? Use the long belt path! Not enough seat belt for the long belt path? Use the short! No tether anchor? Have a recline bar!"

The Regent is just a royal PITA to install, IMO.

I am neither thrilled nor disgusted with it. How's that for wishy-washy?

It is big, heavy, and the install isn't the most fun I've ever had. But I've found that I can get a decent install in the vehicles I've put it in, the harness height is great, etc. DS will be able to use it for a long, loooong time. A major down side is the crotch strap is 3" away from DS (he is pretty slender--40.5" tall, 38 lbs) and I have to roll up a towel and put it between his legs to prop him up, otherwise he just slides right down. I'd say for bigger or older kids it's a great idea. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have just bought two of the Nautilus. It totally depends on the kid. My niece was this size at 3 and has a stockier build; it would have been perfect for her, she'd still fit in it now at nearly 7. But for my beanpole kid it's not so great.

I dind't have any trouble installing the Regent in my Toyota Sienna, btw, I just didn't like the way it fit my skinny little guy.

I think that the Regent has its place and like many others have already posted it is made for older children. My son is a bean pole with a very long torso (he is 27 months old), so I know that I will get more use out of this seat later on. I think that I am going to buy the Graco for the time being and use it until my son gets older.

:yeahthat:

We love our Regent, but I have a 97th percentile child. If she were average, or if she were 2.5yo again, and just outgrowing her 3-in-1 by height, I'd probably choose something like the Nautilus or Frontier over the Regent.

I am not in love with the installation options for the post-advisory Regent, either, or how wide the Regent is, or how far out the crotch strap is, even on the closest setting. However, it is a great option for those bigger-than-average kids, especially those with longer torsoes, and/or those who are stocky. My daughter only has about an inch of torso height left in the Regent (she'll outgrow it around her 8th birthday, I'm guessing), is 60 pounds, and still uses the closest crotch strap setting.

Loved the regent for ds1, who outgrew the marathon by height at 5 years old and was in no way ready for a booster. I have actually come to hate it though. Not only because I feel it doesn't fit ds2 well (who is much smaller than ds1 at this age), but also because I've been moving it more lately. Honestly, since I have a pre-advisory regent installing it isn't that hard, but finding out after you've installed it that the buckle has twisted underneath or the leg strap is twisted and you have to take the whole darn thing out to untwist the straps is really a pita. If I didn't have to get fall clothes for all 3 kids I would get a frontier or nauti today!
I do have to say that I agree that the regent does fill a niche, however with more hwh options coming out that niche has become somewhat smaller.

I love it! And thankfully have never had an install issue in any of the cars I use (I have a Post and Pre Advisory) and the width isn't a problem since I can get 3 across my Jetta with it!

My DS is 4yrs and pretty tall, he has next to no room in other HW seats and the Regent fits lovely!

Where's Splash? I am waiting for her to come and talk about how much she LOOOVES the Regent.

Ha ha ha. Charlie's been riding in one for about 8 months I suppose, since shortly after going froward facing. He likes it. It installs *okay* in the van, but in my car it is installed w/o the recline bar (post advisory) because that's the only way it will fit. I can actually get it REALLY solid after about 15 minutes of wishing for death. (Compared to less than 2 minutes with his BV). I'm thinking of selling it, and just using his BV for now (which he has recently started loving again and with the addition of the Priori, we don't need it for the baby) while he still has some room (about a inch, maybe less) and then getting something else when the time comes.

It's big, heavy, awkward, and difficult to install. But it's a great seat for big kids, and it is very comfy (I can't dispute that it's one of the most comfy ones out there, at least). I don't like it, but it works and my kid likes it. For now, though, he seems much more content in his BV.
