Infant car seats vs convertible car seats

I have the movies and seen the test on a rear facing convertible car seat and the infant car seat. In my opinion(from these movies) it looks like the convertible car seat would be the safest choice over the infant seat, because the infant seat flies into the back seat more then the convertible does. What happens to the newborns neck when the infant seat hits the back seat(if it does) and then comes back down. The convertible seat seems to stay into place better then the infant seat. What do you think? Are these movies misleading?

i've wondered that too. i've always noticed some infant seats rebound a lot more then others. the snugride goes almost all the way to the vehicle seat back where as the combi connection goes up a few inches. i think it depends on the car.

Unless tethered, they all rebound, so there's little difference in the neck of the infant from an infant to a convertible. Or it would vary from model to model. But whatever the variance it is well within the allowed limits for the seat to pass.

It's not a concern for a seat to rebound. The baby's head may hit the back, yes. It's designed for an average adult to squish into without injury. It is essentially one big pad. So it won't hurt the baby. Plus most of the baby's head will be within the shell of the seat. Maybe the tip of a nose would stick out.
