Install Pics... '97 Suburban Tethers

Just thought I'd throw some pics out there of my last two installs in my parents' Suburban. I've recently tried the True Fit and EFTA, but I thought the tether situation might be of general interest:

According to the dealer, the approved tether location for the second row are the third row buckles. They provided this part to make it easier:

I discovered on closer inspection that it is EXACTLY the same part as the front row buckles. The front seats have the dual-retractor with sewn-on latch type seatbelts.

This is how the tether looks done up:

Here's the buckle placement on the two seats I tried. I find these buckles annoyingly long with unfortunately short stalks. I can only get one 360° turn out of them. Both these seats were installed using the centre lap-belt.

Hope you find this enlightening! :)

Thanks for the pictures! It's so much easier than trying to describe "a metal loop that buckles into unused 3rd row buckles."

As for the installs- I would probably flip the latchplate with the TrueFit. The belt portions are very nearly perpendicular to the beltpath and latchplagte and it's pushing against the edge. Buckling it backward will align them better and keep it from potentially slipping.

Wow, that's a cool part. I wish we had more tethering alternatives like that (especially in the states... I've seen some neat Canadian answers to tethering in old cars )

well that is interesting. but what exactly are you to do for tethering if you are using the 3rd row buckles already for people. one of the reasons you may have a suburban to begin with

Since the TF has a lock-off, with both the lap and tail portion in the lock-off that wouldn't be necessary would it?

You're SOL. I use the lapbelt position since that's not a safe place for a passenger to sit anyway.

Umm, I believe her car seat came with a tether anchor, and while my mechanic uncle was here one summer he put it in for her. I had actually forgotten about that until you asked.
