Ok, reading about all the projectiles leaves me with a question. I have a Sienna van. Through the summer, my charges go to am camp, and eat lunch in the car while we drive to pm camp. My morning routine is..... Go to work, take kids to camp, go home to get DD (from DH), go get kids from pm camp. I put the lunches, and DD's sippy cups (1 milk, 1 water), and water bottles for everyone in a smallish cooler. The cooler usually sits on the front passenger seat so it's easily accessable to me.
I know, I know, major projectile no-no. So... should I put the seatbelt through the handle of the cooler? Will this keep it from flying away too far? Should I put a regular belt (or luggage strap?) around the lid to make sure it stays closed in an accident?
Any suggestions on how to make this safer? Luckily this summer is almost over, but then we have next summer (with 4 kids, not 3) to deal with.
