Only missed 1 question: about seat belt stalks forward of the seat bite ... the instructors admitted to saying that there was nothing to help such a situation, but NHTSA says a top tether can help -- I made a blind guess after wracking my brain with it for a good 5 minutes straight -- oh well, if I'd have guessed right, I wouldn't have really learned the correct answer.

It was sooooo much FUN! 15 of us, all police/firemen, except for 1 nurse & me. Each day we played Jeopardy for review & all the guys were arguing over who got me on their team, LOL & for the test the instructors told me I should probably move to another room because the guys all wanted to cheat off me @@ I'm such a sap, I was really sad when it ended ... I was the last one to stick around at the carseat event *SIGH*

Now, I can't wait to get the final "go ahead" from NHTSA :) Already made the announcement at church, LOL & plan to hit up Leila's Nursery school teacher tomorrow to let her know she can post a sign up sheet soon & I'm also going to start really getting on the Elementary school's case -- the other local techs hold monthly events only at the Sherrif's Station outside of our district & I want our local fire house to hopefully back me up in trying to get the school to address the fact that far too many carpools do not use boosters and have 2+ kids share a belt *GASP*

BTW, the instructors were really "down" on Britax (they did say that they're certainly innovators) -- they had very convincing experience with crash dynamics & images of 3 vehicles locally that had been ripped in half: carseats tethered RF broke  (even though otherwise, there was no cause for the carseat to break besides the fact that the RF tether was attached to both halves of the vehicle) :( So, they said to check with the vehicle manufacturer before tethering RF.... Also, I learned our local misuse rate is about 97%

Yay, Tiff, I'm glad you enjoyed it and passed. As if there was any doubt ;)
Now get to work changing all those crazies around you at the preschool and schools, LOL!

Congrats :D

Congratulations and welcome back. No doubt you will have a positive impact on the local correct usage rate now that you're official. Good luck with your efforts and I bet you taught those folks at your course a thing or two. :)

Congratulations, Tiffany! :D

With the seats I've tried in my van, in the forward-of-the-bight position (Airway, Touriva, Husky, Futura), tethering the seat did not help the problem. The issue is that the seat's base can slide forward a good 3+ inches. The top tether does not prevent this from happening. Sure, it stops it at a certain point, but there is always enough slack that the base slides way too much to be considered an acceptable install.

The only solution I've found is to use the reverse belt path. With the Futura, this works great. It also worked awesome with the Husky, but my particular belt is only a lapbelt, and they don't allow the reverse belt path with just a lapbelt, so I'm a bit stuck about what to do when she outgrows the Futura.

Jenny, that's exactly why I was driving myself crazy with that 1 question: there was no "nothing works" or "none of the above" option, LOL -- so I did the EenyMeenyMineyMo trick between a locking clip or tether. NHTSA says the tether is the answer, though & the instructors said it probably just comes down to the child leaving safer than they came in  I mentioned the reverse belt path option to the the instructors & they had never tried it because they just don't stock the expensive seats that offer such a method....

& yep, they had no idea the Apex MUST be used with a vehicle head rest or that Recaro REQUIRES the top tether & had never even heard of the SafeGuard :D

I'd like to find out more from Bitax about precisely how they tested & approved the tethering for RF

fwiw, we were told it could take a month before our cardsarrived, and for our class it was closer to 6 weeks. Our instrcutors told us were were "legal" without the cards to do checks, but this was before the SK forms asked for the tech #.

Yeah, they did say we could do checks if we wanted, but ideally a senior tech should sign off (& even that if I'm the only tech that would suffice without an extra signature) ... I'm just cautious ;) I suppose I could add my ID # in later  At least for checks on my friends' seats  I definitely want the ID when I visit the schools!

Glas I'm not the only one who got weird looks. I had to read if off the seat and still I got funny looks from them. I'm so glad things went well! A 99 is GREAT (2 better than me, though I got the one right you mentioned, lol)! I have another check coming up on the 22nd and I'm hoping to get another one in at the Safety Council before then.

I missed that same question!! I also could not think of the right answer, and I was hoping for an "none of the above" answer but there wasn't one so I just had to guess.

Congrats on passing!!!

YEAAAA!!!! Congrats and Welcome to the CPST world.

Your class sounds a lot like mine. All the other people wanted me on their team when we did team work. We too did Jeopardy every morning with reviews. I too only missed 1 question. Mine was the friend not buckling up and it was a double sided question with 2 answers that could have been correct. My instructor said it was one question almost everyone missed no matter what. But, Hey I won $30 bucks for having the highest score. We did a money cup and anytime anyone said "accident" they had to add to the fund. Students had to pay $1 & instructors had to pay $5.

Hehehe, we had the Accident $ cup, too ... but, the cop instructor was the one who kept breaking the rule  (& he never paid)

Wish I'd gotten a $ reward for the highest score!!! :p

Congratulations! I don't remember how we did our reviews in the morning (it was way too early for my consciousness, lol), but I do remember that we had candy on our desks and we had to give up the candy when we said "accident."
