thanks for the recommendations

Ok, i have composed my email to my bro and sil. I want to seem nice since they get a little touchy when it comes to "how to raise their kids", btw did you know that furniture was made to jump on. lol I added the Frontier as i think it is an awsome seat :)

I also wanted to slip in there that he should still be rear facing but not being too overbearing

Hey how are you? Did you get your scratch ticket? how was your trip? excusions? ship? flights? black out lol? Did you miss the boys?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Just FYI, when i was at mom and dads on Monday, i was curious about J's seat after talking to Ann about it a couple months ago. I looked at the date of manufacting and it is May 2001. I have double checked and they expiry after 6 years which would mean that you need a new car seat ASAP. Here is the link to Transport Canada saying the expiry date. It is under Dorel http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/childsafety/notices/TP14563C/2007c10/menu.htm

You might want to check on O's booster as well. If need be, let me know if you want recommendations on a new seat for him

There are a couple of options

1. Radian - $229

you might be able to find one at Canadian tire that goes up to 48lbs for $129 but you have to look at teh straps as i guess some had "short strap issues" and with the real size, you can tell they are long straps, almost too long. I can get you the product number and you can call the stores. It may be dated 2006 but has a 8 year expirty on it so it will be fine

The new ones are rear facing children 5 to 30 lbs, and forward facing up to 65 lbs, in a 5-point harness. it is a narrow seat and you might be able to get another person in the back seat with one of these

After this seat you could move him to a low back booster seat until 80lbs

2. TruFit is $200, has been onsale at Toys R Us for $159.00

http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index...&cp=2582967.2799922.2799922&parentPage=family

has a 5 point harness up to 65lbs or you can even turn him back around rear facing until 35lbs in this seat, since rear facing is alot safer.

Take a read here if you are interested in the info about rear facing longer, http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=9316 and watch this video http://youtube.com/watch?v=kRP7ynNI8mI. It certainly changed my opinion on switching Isabella forward facing at a year old.

It also has hockey helmet foam all around and true side impact protection.

After this seat you could move him to a low back booster seat until 80lbs

3. The Britax Frontier is $300

http://www.babyproofingplus.com/item9600.htm?catid=28

Forward Facing Harness: 2 years and 11.4 kg (25 pounds) up to 29.5 kg ( 65 pounds.

9 yr expiry date, will be the last seat you'll need.

4. Evenflo Triumph - $149 and has been onsale at sears for $124.

http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index...&cp=2582967.2799922.2799922&parentPage=family

foward-facing car seat for toddlers 20-47 lbs, then would have to go to a high back booster seat.

5. Evenflo Bolero/Generations (Walmart/Sears/TRU) - $139 at TRU

http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index...age=search&f=PAD/Brand Name Secondary/Evenflo

forward-facing car seat for toddlers 20-47 lbs belt-positioning booster for children 40-100 lbs. With subtle shades of beige and brown, this car seat includes pivoting armrests and a Comfort Touch head and body pillow

Quick question - what's the padding like on the Frontier? is it comfy?

The padding is maybe a touch less than a MA in terms of the bum area - probably pretty comparable though. It's definitely more than the Radian... It has great leg depth measured from crease of seat to front edge of seat, and seems really comfy. My dd seemed to like it well enough anyways.
