I am going to the beach with my sister, neice and nephew as well as my 2 kids. I will be driving my 06 town and country. We have to park a good distance from the beach and walk with all our stuff down. So i was planning on bringing our wagon to put stuff in or at least the 2 of the kids in as we walk. The only way it fits is by putting my 1/3 of the rear seat down. Or putting a captains seat down. I would rather do the 3rd instead of getting 3across in the rear. I installed our backup seat (an eddie buaer 3-1, I bought it before i knew better, and got it as a shower gift and has since replaced it) for my 18 month old nephew (huge at least 35 lbs so it has to be foward facing. I installed it in the middle with the seatbelt with top teether so i could get more room out of the seat, latch is offcentered. I took the base off so my neice booster could fit. Is it ok to take the base off. Also the bottom of the seat is completely on teh seat but the seat gets larger as you move up is it ok to have that part off the seat, since its not where it would touch anyways.

It's fine to remove the base for rf'ing or ff'ing, and it has to be off for booster mode.

When installing it ff'ing, just make sure that you have the little kick-stand in the upright position. It lays flat along the bottom of the seat when the seat is rf'ing, but needs to be pulled out so that it stands up when the seat is installed ff'ing or being used as a booster. :)

The removable base is optional in harnessed mode (and you always take it off for booster mode). It's fine to take it off and I've actually found that it installs better without it. At least 80% of the base needs to be on the vehicle seat. It sounds like it's okay the way you have it.
