Vent I'm a bit discouraged about our local SK

I had a chat with our local SK coordinator about me volunteering my time for SK so we got to talking about the current state of car seat safety in our state.
As I was telling him about my own experience in car seat checks (how the techs missed my improper use of LATCH twice and strongly encouraging me to FF my then-one-year-old DS) he proceeded to make excuses for them about how the LATCH manual is really, really confusing and how in our state we'd be lucky to see a one year old properly restrained in the first place (much less, RF). Then points out how the vehicle LATCH limits in the LATCH manual include the weight of the CRS (which I now know to be not true).
On top of that, when we were discussing snowsuits and how I, as a new parent did not know that you weren't supposed to buckle a snowsuited-up baby in a carseat, until I read otherwise. He then proceeded to tell me how sometimes these "sources" aren't really aware of the unique circumstances that surround specific climates. For example, how we (living in a colder climate) wouldn't quite understand the heat issues involved for someone living in Arizona. So as far as the snowsuit goes, it came across to me as it was something that he could tolerate.
It's quite disheartening to hear this coming from the SK coordinator for our community himself. I'm not sure if I should be volunteering at this point because it seems we are not on the same page.
Sorry for the rant but just wanted to get some opinions on what would be the next step for me.
What would you do? Would you still volunteer?

Well, that doesn't sound right. I would still volunteer, maybe you could talk some sense in him, lol. You could at least pass your correct knowledge on.

Yeah, join the secret underground movement to take over SK with *extremely* knowledgeable techs  (ok, no real secret... at least the techs here can walk you through difficult situations with your higher-ups who don't know as much...)

I'm a Safe Kids coordinator and am definitely on the same page as you guys. My other techs are not. The problem is that they have been techs longer than me and don't listen to what I have to say. I have stopped inviting one to our checks because he is so bad.

I volunteer with my local group occasionally. I figure I can help people that other techs and senior checkers would miss. I'm the only one I know of actually preaching best practice. So if I can have kids leaving safer than when they came in, kids who wouldn't have been if I hadn't been there, then it's worth it.

But when people ask me, "So, you're a member of...this group? You do this all the time?" I specifically say that I do checks all the time, but privately. I am my own person, and I volunteer my time to SafeKids, I am not part of them. Their reputation, while positive in the community, is not up to my standard.
