Question Is renting booster seats safe?

Hello,

We will be traveling in Australia and are trying to decide whether we need to bring a booster or just rent one with the car. I would never rent a car seat as one never knows whether it had been in an accident. But is this issue null when talking about boosters since the seat is only lifting the child up, not directly restraining her?

Thanks!

I wouldn't. In addition to boosting the child up the seat helps distribute crash forces across the hips. A high back booster adds some measure of side impact protection, and it helps guide the shoulder belt, plus gives kiddo a place to rest her jetlagged head. If she fits in a high back, anyway.

I'd bring one.

How old is the child, and what does she weigh?

Also, Austrailia's boosters may not fit your child. They have lower height & weight limits, so that's something to consider as well.

I agree with the previous posters. Not only do you not know what the seat has been through, I've also heard of people renting seats and then them not having one when they get there to rent the car. There's just too many unknowns. If you're looking for something that will be easier to travel with, I'd urge you to look at the Compass B510. It will be a lot more compact than the average high back booster seat.

In addition to what the PPs have said, taking your own booster would probably be cheaper than renting one. You can get a two-piece Turbobooster for $40. You can pack both parts in luggage, and you could leave it behind when you come home. More room for souvenirs!
