The Trufit FFing and head bobbing

So tomorrow is my car seat shopping day. I have yet to find a FFing seat I like and that doesn't push my kiddos head forward. The Frontier is the best so far, but way too much for what we need. A BLVD is out...we had one and it pushed her head forward horribly.

So tomorrow I am gonna look at the Recaro YS and the Signo and the TF as well.

I won't have my kids with me to try the seats out other than installing them in my car so I need word of mouth :) How is the head support/head bob on the TF FFing?? Anyone have any pics?? Does it make a decent seat FFing??

Thanks!

I am wondering this same thing! I posted about it weeks ago, without much response. It really seems like all the TF owners are using it RF. I have a small 4 yo outgrowing her orig Triumph, who sleeps in the car a lot. I wanted the Nautilus to work, but it just didn't. The Frontier is way expensive, and with all the issues I've heard about it, I didn't even want to check it out. The Regent is too wide. I also didn't want a convertible with a huge base, since IMO that looks more babyish. So that left me deciding between the Radian and TF. I finally ordered a TF from Target last week, and am waiting on its arrival. In fact, I was just coming on here to whine- I got Target shipping notification last Thursday, but when I check UPS it just says "billing info received", which means it isn't in transit still. GRRRRRRRR!

I have a Graco Cargo that works well for sleeping. My kids never had head bobbing issues even in the very upright backseat in dh's truck.

I'm almost sad my dd has about outgrown it by weight - it doesn't expire for 1.5 years but baby will be rfing for at least that long so it will go wasted.:(

I see you have a Marathon. What is the big difference between the Marathon and the Blvd.? There the same shells. Do you have problems with the Marathon too? I have the Blvd but using it rf and I'm also considering buying a TF for another car.

Dd is ff'ing in hers now but hasn't fallen asleep in it yet. The head wings are so deep though and the recline of the seat when installed is similar to the way the MA naturally reclines - at least in my truck, so I don't foresee any huge head slumping. If it does slump, I'd try removing the top pillow before anything else.

Although all things considered, I'm at this moment undecided about how I like it as a ff'ing seat. It'll take some more trips and time for me to fully decide though.

Dd isn't in the seat in this pic, but here's a pic of a ff'ing install anyways if it helps give an idea of support:

And from the front:

This one she's rf'ing & about to get out of the truck, so unbuckled already... but I had her lay her head to the side to show side support:

If I were to guess, I'd say the angle the seat installs ff'ing in my truck is probably only a little more upright than how upright we had the seat rf'ing. I don't really anticipate head slumping because of the shape of the shell, but I'll be sure to post once she falls asleep for the first time.

DS has had his seat TF seat FFing and RFing (depending upon his weight that day) and he has no problem with head bobbing in the TF in either the FFing or RFing position. He sleeps just fine in the seat as his head does not bob and head bobbing is something I worry about in with any seat. It's important to me that he is able to sleep comfortably since we take some long drives.

We have used our TF FF for my 5 year old. She slept fine with no issues. She just put her head over to the side. She usually rides in a Graco Cargo and sleeps well in that too. Sorry I don't have any pics, I've been having issues with my camera recently.

The seat does have some natural recline, so I think that helps.

I don't have a Trufit, but it doesn't look like it would have the same problem the Boulevard has. I completely understand the head bobbing with the Boulevard. DD had horrible problems with that seat. So bad that her head goes onto her chest which puts pressure where her back meets the seats & she gets red circle imprints. It was replaced with a Marathon & no more issues. The Boulevard issue is that the head part juts out a bit from the rest of the seat. From the pictures, the Trufit looks like the head rest is attached to the top of the seat and not to the front of it.

Yes, and it appears that the little oval head pillow on the headrest is removeable. It looks kinda puffy, and like it could *possibly* push a head forward in an upright seat, but if it can be removed I don't foresee any problems. My TF should be here today. I hope it works for us, because I am out of options.

I did! I don't know why I posted as an unregistered user in this thread. Anyway, I'm sure you saw my other threads I've started. For one, I was disappointed in the fabric, but I may still keep it. I don't feel like returning it and dd liked it fine, plus it matches my van perfectly. I got it installed this morning, and I'm deciding whether or not to cut the tags for the test drive. I'm taking the girls out this afternoon and hoping I can put it to the sleep test. I'll keep you posted.

She fell asleep on the way to the mall AND the way back, whoo-hoo!! No forward head bobbing!! It's a wide seat, and she's a skinny thing, so her head was pushed quite a ways over, but I don't mind that. In fact, she looked just like Trudy's dd in the post above. She rested her head right on the huge torso wings. I'm still deciding whether I'll keep it or not, because I'm not sure I love everything else about it, but at least I know she can sleep in it. HTH someone!

Here's a few pics I snapped for someone wanting to see the fabric.

It's the Casino. That is the first thing that disappointed me. The very middle inside strip and infant insert is really soft and plush, but the rest of the seat (inside and outside edges) is a weird stiff suedlike material. I had only seen the cappuccino IRL and that one is plush all over, so I was expecting the same. I don't love the continuous harness- makes it harder to adjust IMO. DD was annoyed by the short crotch buckle being down so low also. She is used to the orig Triumph, where it is on her stomach though. That's about it. I love the low profile, and the tall shell. It is a big seat. Looks just as monstrous as the EFTA IMO. But supposedly it is a tad skinnier. HTH!
