OMG! I am so mad at my mom!

Ok, I think I vented about her before....she thinks it is ok to transport kids wtihout carseats at all-because her police friend said their are exempt because of the grandparents law! Whatever made up law that is.

We are in illinois. So, for our family reunion she brought 3 of her new husband's grandkids with her. ages 13, (just turned 7-but size of a 4 year old), and just 4 year old.

I went by her car to looka nd see if she had seats in their and she had one low back booster-graco kind that I gave her to replace her outdated avent baby one they had.

WTF!!! I told her this was bad and sent her all the info. She knows she don't care. The mom doesn't care either.

The dad came to pick up the kids later on(long story-stupid parents never wanna be around their kids on the weekends) and luckily he had seats in his car or I was going to go home and grab extra seats or call the freakin' cops!!!!

I was so mad!!!!! Why doesn't she understand???

One reason why she never has my kids ever(Oh and another reason, because she never wants them just her new grandkids  )!!!!

One time she drove us to her house when we were at the dealership getting the car fixed and she was po'ed that I had logan rear facing and michael in his regent at the time!

My FIL told me about the "grandparents law" thing too. He had heard some people talking about it over coffee. I basically told him yeah right. It's the law to have kids in proper seats. I even looked it up a bit, and I think on some government website (I'm in Canada) it even mentioned making sure grandparents/babysitters, etc have proper car seats for children. Maybe there is a law like that somewhere, or maybe it was a law 20 years ago. I have no idea.

Up until July 1, 2008, it was legal in BC for a driver to have a 20lb child in just a seatbelt if they weren't the parent/guardian of the child. Not sure where else they had/have it, but that would be the "Grandparent's exemption"

that sounds like my MIL. She hasn't really wanted to be around my ds since my dnephew was born in Dec. But when she does, she thinks that she is under that Grandparent exemption law. Some people just can't seem to listen to others about safety.

That's just awful! My parents seemed to think I was nuts at first, but they can definitely SEE how much safer their grandkids are in carseats over the belt, and would never DELIBERATELY put them at risk or be annoyed w/ me for insisting on car seats! My MIL is the ideal grandparent, though. I asked to to go w/ me to BRU when ds2 was a baby b/c he needed a new seat, we were visiting her (no BRU here) and I dind't know where it was. She bought him the then brand new, only sold at BRU, Britax Boulevard b/c she was so impressed w/ all the safety features! I was going to get him a new seat, but I wouldn't have been able to afford the Boulevard.
