A friend came up to visit this past week and I was alarmed to see her kids in backless boosters in the back of her Mitsubishi Lancer. Both kids were in backless boosters, not sure which as the car was too messy to tell , but they were just basic ones you can get at WM for 25.00, nothing special.
The first child is barely 4, approx 33 or 34 lbs and 39 inches, almost the exact same as my son but he's slightly heavier. I just bought a Nautilus for him.
The second child is almost 3 but very big, almost as big as my near 7 yo (who happens to be small for her age, you still with me here? lol)
She's about 40 inches tall and 43 lbs. So *Technically* she could be big enough... but I just don't think its quote right.
Now my friend did ask if she had her kids properly restrained as she just came from another state. I did tell her that technically since they were restrained she was not breaking the law, but that her kids really should be in better seats as boosters just went enough for her young kids, especially when winter comes. I told her the law here is 6 or 60 lbs, but I *Think* its due to go up to 8 and 80 in California... maybe someone knows? Also, shes staying in nevada, just over state line and I think the law is also 6 or 60 in Nevada.
I know she can afford better seats so I plan to kind of ease her into it and get her to see the wisdom of what I am saying.
So I am wondering what affordable seats we can buy locally (so at Walmart, Toys R us, or Target) that you all would reccomend for her kids.
Also, can any offer me some pointers on how to talk to her without making her feel stupid, things I can say to get her to see the light. She's nopt the best mom in the world anyway I was dissapointed to see this after having not seen her in years (we were hs friends) and while she's not doing anything illegal she certainly isn't doing herself or her kids any favord. Of all the parenting *mistakes* I saw with her the carseat or lack of proper ones was the mistake thats been keeping me up at night. Can you help?
