Covers that fit Graco Snugride? Read on...

My niece and her husband are getting custody of the husband's sister's soon-to-be-born baby boy (the mother is giving up rights to the child). They are seriously impoverished (as in, I will be surprised if they can afford diapers or formula for the baby) and they were going to get a $3 carseat from a thrift store, but I insisted they take my Snugride, as it's less than 2 years old and in great condition. I even installed it for her and showed her how to check installation regularly, and told her all the "rules" (no front seat, etc).

However, my Snugride is the Giselle color, pink and black. Niece's husband is one of "those" guys, who is going to freak out if his son has to ride in a pink seat, and I'm afraid that he'll insist that they get a "boyish" seat from Goodwill or something.

Is there anywhere to get seat covers that are cheap that fit with this model of seat? Anyone have one to sell? Anyone have tips to help me sew one myself. I don't think it needs to be fancy, just not pink.

I'd check out craigslist. You can often find seats that should not be used anymore for about $10. But the covers are still good.

Just make sure you get a cover for a five point Snugride, not a three, and a front adjust, if that's what you gave them.

Don't make your own. It could fail miserably in a collision. And of course the worst case in that is infant death. It wouldn't be fire retardant. Not worth the $15.
