Britax said it was okay to use expired car seats?

I emailed a seller on ebay and told her the car seat she was selling was expired and that it was dangerous to use and this is what she replied to me:

Hello:
I am not a dishonest Seller and if you look at eBay there are plenty of Britax being sold that are past the manufacture’s expiration date. If I was dishonest I would have not told you the manufacture date or said I do not know.
I actually did contact Britax about this manufactures expiration date and one person I got, said that they were required to put that but as long as the car seat had not been in an accident or exposed to extreme heat and cold, it should be fine to use well past the expiration date, so I felt what I was told was correct. I have now changed the auction to the cover and hardware only.
Thank you.

They're lying plain and simple. And the fact that they're changing their auction proves that they know they're lying and they got caught. Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean its ok:(

its sad what people will do for a few bucks.. like risking the life of someone elses child (if someone who didnt know any better bought the seat and used it in an accident) :(

An authorized Britax retailer told me the same thing. She was trying to sell me a brand-new, 3yo Boulevard for full price and said that since the seat was new and hadn't been exposed to extreme temperatures, Britax said it was fine to use well past the expiration date.

I called Britax and relayed this info to them- the CS rep that I spoke with was annoyed and said she would forward the info. to their wholesale dept. and that it was definately NOT okay to use a seat past the expiration date. I'm not surprised people selling on ebay are unethical if an authorized retailer will do it
