Question Which Cosco seat was this?

I recently rented a car and a car seat to go with it. I'm trying to figure out what seat it was, since the whole rental experience was sub-par and I want to write them a letter to complain. In my looking around online, I am suspecting the seat may have been recalled, and I want to know for sure. I've learned not to use rental car seats--I just don't trust rental companies to keep safe car seats after this. (They tried to give me a Cosco Scenera--with no straps! And then they tried to tell me to just put the seatbelt around it!)

Anyway, the seat in question: The label on it said it was for 22-40 pounds, and worked rear or front facing. I didn't notice it saying anything about using it with smaller babies. But it was really little; WAY shorter than the Scenera or my Fisher Price Safe Voyage, which has the same body as a Britax Marathon. It had a navy blue velour cover that attached at the sides with elastic straps that kept coming loose (which is what I think some Cosco seats were recalled for, right?). There was a sticker on the front of the base with a label on it with the seat model's name in it, but it was mostly ripped off. I was able to see some of the letters, which I have since stupidly forgotten, and I remember thinking the name must have had some reference to traveling in it, as opposed to some seemingly meaningless name, like Scenera. My daughter is 25 months and about 25 pounds and 32 inches, and no matter how much I tightened them, the straps always seemed a little loose. She rode rear-facing in the seat.

Any ideas? I'm having a hard time finding good pictures of older model Cosco seats. (Not too old! I just don't think it's a seat they make now. I couldn't find it on their website.) I thought it might be a Touriva, but then I found a review that said that seat was pretty big, so I don't think that's it now. Thanks!

You could try looking through the online carseat pictorial guide at Safety Belt Safe USA's site to see if you can make a positive I.D. of the rental seat:
http://www.carseat.org/Pictorial/0_PicLink.htm The same site has a comprehensive recall list at http://www.carseat.org/Recalls/179NP.pdf

I'm sorry your experience was so crummy, and relieved to hear you won't be renting a seat again. We usually discourage rental seats here on the forum due to situations like you unfortunately encountered first hand, and recommend travelers bring their own carseat to use instead. Rental seats of dubious condition and history, missing parts, missing labels or instruction manuals, possibly expired or recalled, not an appropriate type or size carseat for the traveler's child, or not necessarily even available at all when the customer arrives at the rental agency in need of a seat to transport a child, etc., are among the various pitfalls of carseat rental. :(

I hope your complaint letter results in a refund and improvement in the rental agency's carseat inventory.

Touriva I just say that because the name sounds like something to do with travelling and it is a really small seat.
It does or at least mine did have that horrible elastic that kept coming off.

I missed that fact that you already thought it was the Touriva. Sorry.

Here is a picture of the one I owned. Ahh gee you are making me miss mine. Funny enough these pictures of DD is when she is 25 months\25 lbs and about 33 inches.

BudgieStew, thanks for the pics! I think that's it! I was confused when I read a review of the Touriva somewhere that said they were too big to fit 2 in a car or something. But everything else makes me think that's the one. Or the Regal Ride, since it did have a very plushy cover.

I had a feeling using a rental seat was going to be problematic, but flying with an extra piece of equipment seemed too cumbersome. Now I know better! And I am so grateful that we didn't have a situation that would test the integrity of the seat while in use. Off to confirm recall info and write my nasty letter--thanks fo the help.
