this has been on my mind and finally found a place to ask! we travel alot! my oldest 2 are in boosters and the question is, is it safe to lower seats while napping in a booster?

No it's not safe for anyone to recline their seat for napping in the car. Your best bet would be to get booster with deep headwings that your child could rest their head on. The Britax Monarch and Sunshine Kids Monterey would be two good choices to look into.
If you were in a crash and the seat were to be reclined, the seatbelts wouldn't hit in the right place and/or your child's body could slip down through the lap portion of the belt (this is called submarining).
Anyone that is forward facing should be as upright as possible to be as safe as possible.
