My son is currently in an evenflo triumph and we are in desperate need of a bigger carseat for him when he gets to the 40 lb. mark. I dont feel comfortable AT ALL putting him in a booster. What is my best option for the least amount of money.
Thanks Please email me at ohmygah23@aol.com

It would help to know what kind of car you have, but generally the option to harness past 40 lbs that works for most people is the Graco Nautilus. Retails for $150 but is on sale for about $135 a couple places this week (got mine at Meijers). There's also the Safety 1st Apex which is a little cheaper but also tends to be outgrown earlier. Both those seats harness to 65 lbs and then turn into boosters. I haven't used the Nautilus as a booster yet but it looks like it will turn into a very nice one. The backless booster portion of the nautilus also has a 9 year lifespan as opposed to the normal 6 for car seats.

If you have more to spend there are some other options like the Sunshine Kids Radian, Britax Regent/Frontier, and a few others. Hope this helps!

Actually, the Nautilus and Apex harness to 65lbs (not 40) and then become a booster. ;)

AHHH! Editing, sorry, I was still thinking 'PAST 40'. Note to self: Don't post advice after long day of chasing three year olds.

I would strongly recommend the Nautilus as being the most bang for your $$$. To go to a seat that is only a 5 point harness and not also a booster wouldn't be as cost effective at this point in my opinion. The Nautilus also has a really nice cupholder and 'junk holders' :D

I wouldn't recommend the Apex because it has to have a headrest/seat supporting it up to the child's ears meaning if it ever needs to be moved to a different car without that, you cannot use it.

Another nice thing about the Nautilus is that it has some of the highest top harness slots on the market :) It will last your little boy a LONG time.

Also, your little guy could outgrow the seat before he hits the 40lb mark. Make sure the harness is above his shoulders and that his ears are not over the top of the shell. If his shoulders are above the top harness slot or his ears are over the top of the shell, he has outgrown the seat regardless of his weight.
