Moving cross-country with a cat, how to restrain?

What do you recommend for an older cat (with Polycystic Kidney Disease, who should have easy access to water and litter in the car) on how to properly restrain him?

01 T&C

I'm thinking maybe get him an x-small dog's travel harness and let him have the cargo area to roam???

What to do about litter and water though?

TIA for any tips/insight you can give me.

I'd put him in a kennel, with a small litter tray in the back of the kennel and a water bottle like they use for rodents.

And also consider tranquilizers if he's not a happy camper.

I'm just not sure if a kennel large enough for a litter box for him, and him, would fit in the cargo area. He's a large cat - long and about 14 lbs.

I'll measure that space later and go to Petsmart and see what they have in the way of kennels. I am still leaning towards a harness with a couple feet of lead and buckling him in, that way he can move around the cargo area.

A ball tip water bottle might work - though they tend to leak with movement, but that's better than an open bowl sloshing around.

My young and reasonably healthy cat HATES car travel, so if I were in your shoes I'd tranquilize the cat, and make certain there were LOTS of soft towels available for soaking up messes (preferably cheap ones that you won't miss if you decide to toss rather than wash them) and just use a cat carrier or other similar crate. :twocents: I'd also suggest a bottle like you would use for small rodents for water and only giving food when stopped.
