Question Car seats in 60% of Mazda CX-9 second row

hi, i was wondering if anyone could advice if there are two seats that can fit in the 60% of the Mazda cx-9 second row and still be able to access the third row through the 40%.

I have one child forward facing and one rear facing. We live in Australia but keen to hear any international experiences.

Originally we were going to just undo the seatbelt and slide forward the 40 % and then do it up again but we have been advised that this would not be the safest option by a child restraint installer. Also there are no tether points in the back row so I am not that keen on that either (even getting them installed - don't want the third row up all the time as it compromises boot space.

Thanks!

I'm not that familiar with your vehicle (despite having ridden in the back of one!) but generally speaking, the Radian is going to be your best bet for the center position while still leaving room to fold down the 40% side. Hopefully someone who actually owns the same vehicle will post with more info.

I also wanted to say that I agree with the person you spoke with - uninstalling the carseat and then re-installing it frequently is not ideal. It greatly increases the risk of mistakes, and getting it re-installed properly would likely be more of a pain than just having people climb over the seats to get to the 3rd row.

However, doesn't your vehicle have LATCH in that position? Would it be possible to install the carseat with LATCH - that way it would still slide forward, though it wouldn't fold, of course. Would that create enough room to access the 3rd row?

Also, just in case it becomes an issue for you in the future, you cannot have additional tether anchors installed in vehicles that already come with factory-installed tether anchors. Stupid car manufacturers!

A Radian and a Marathon (side by side) still allow the 40% to slide forward without interference. For that matter (if your model has LATCH), the seat *does* slide forward without interrupting the install when installed using LATCH. The top tether is directly on the seat back and can also be used without affecting the install when sliding back and forth. I could just squeeze through to the 3rd row and my kids could easily get in/out of the third row by just sliding the bench forward and back.

Both the Radian and Marathon install well in all positions both rear facing and forward facing in this vehicle (with LATCH and seatbelt).
