A friend was in a crash today

and they are so lucky to be ok. Her dh picked up their five year old to run some errands. Normally the 5 yr old rides in a Marathon(she's tiny at only 35lbs). The 5 yr old wanted to ride in the new booster that mom just bought for later and convinced dad it was ok even though dad knew it wasn't. He pulled up to a stop light and noticed that dd had unbuckled herself and was climbing down on the front floor(they were in a pick up - no airbag) to grab her book. He unbuckled his belt to grab her off the floor and get her back into the booster. Someone ran the light and hit another vehicle pushing that vehicle into theirs. Luckily they are both ok and only shook up but it could have been so much worse. My friend called and was so upset that he had her in a booster seat. Her dh was also freaking out and said he'd never question her decision on seats again. Someone was watching out for their family today.

WOW..AWESOME!
Not cool they got hit obviously, but I'm sure that is now one safe little girl who will ride harnessed til she's married!

Wow, so they were both unbuckled? Thank goodness they're OK.

Yes and only for a minute while he was getting her strapped back in. This is a family that is always buckled up. They are very conscious about car seat safety. It's a huge reminder that accidents can happen anytime and just cause we're stopped at a light doesn't mean it's an ok time for me to hop into the back to grab the kids something(when I'm not driving - lol).

Her dh finally realized why she didn't want to move dd to a booster even though all the other kids they know are either in boosters or in the seat belt only. Since they live in Texas, she doesn't legally even need to be in a child restraint anymore. :(
