A friend of mine's step daughter is in a 3pt shield seat. Since the first day I saw it, I've been trying to convince her to get a new seat. Anyways, she called me today and said she wants to get rid of it and get a new seat. Her DH wants to put the little girl (4yo in July, 40lbs and tall) in a booster and she asked me what I thought. Of course I said NO WAY!
She can't shell out for a Radian right now ($229), so she's going to get her an Apex ($160) (she's got headrests) and keep her harnessed until she's too tall.
Her DS is the same age as my DS (2 in July) and he's almost even with the top usuable slots on his AOE. She's going to get the Apex now for her dsd, and when the 2 yo outgrows the AOE, she's going to get a radian and put the little girl in it to keep her harnessed and put her DS in the Apex.
She thanked me for all of my car seat rants, and informing her about the AOE and the shield seat. She said she wished she new before what she has learned from me now, and she never would've bought the AOE.
It just felt so good to know that I made a difference in those two little kid's safety. And thank you all for helping me learn this stuff. In your own way, everyone on this site has helped keep these two kids safe. It really makes me want to become a tech though!!!
