FPSVD tethter question

I can't find my FPSVD manual (shame on me) so I have a question.

I got a new mini van for mothers day (yay me) & DS had to go in the back. The seat in the back has no LATCH but has a rear tether. He is FF, so can I tether FF & use a seatbelt at the same time?

TIA!

And according to the manual, you must be tethering while FF.
;)

It really reduces head excursion while FF.

You sure on that? It MUST tether? The Regent, Safeguard Go, Frontier, these require tethers at some point in their use, but the FPSVD must be tethered forward facing?

My FPSVD manual (p. 32) says

"The Manufacturer recommends that the tether be used in forward facing mode. Using the tether will improve the stability of the child restraint and reduce the risk of injury."

So it's not "required" but "recommended".

It does list it as part of the installation for Latch on p. 25.
(I think it should be more forceful here and say it is "required". Isn't that what Latch means?)

And says it will improve installation for lap belt and lap/shoulder belt installations.

I knew they had something in the manual. My manual is with the seat in the in-laws vehicle. Required or recommended, it's still best practice...

Thx ladies. That's how I installed the seat but then, of course, started second guessing myself. LOL...

For what it's worth, I think you should top tether ANY forward facing harnessed seat, regardless of whether you use the lower anchors or the seatbelt to install the restraint. It's only absolutely required in Canada though.

It's required to use top tethers when using lower anchors, otherwise it's an incomplete installation -- the LATCH system includes Lower Anchors and Tether (for CHildren).

I know...

From what I've been told, this is not always the case. There are certain situations where there are lower anchors, but not top anchors---some convertibles, for example.

signed, simply--who knows what LATCH stands for...

Actually, this is not true. I thought so too, but I was informed that it is not actually a requirement.

There are SOME vehicles that have lower anchors, but no top tether, therefore, they cannot be mandatory to use together.

Maybe that's why we call it UAS up here (universal anchorage system)... of course, top tethers are mandatory so who knows. :D
