Can I ask another favor of you? (And your LATCH Manual) ;)

I went to the Mazda dealership today and inquired about getting a Top Tether anchor installed in my Mazda 626.

The Parts Guy informed me that "unless your car already comes with them, you are out of luck, because we don't add them on"

Of course, I know that they DO add them on, and I told them that I'd get the exact part number and come back. They are lucky that I am a patient person, but I'm also persistant. So I will go back :)

So can you look up the exact part number for me? I have a Mazda 626 LX, 1998. Thanks!

ETA: I meant to put this in the "Car Forum" so I'm not sure how it ended up here. Sorry!

Not sure of the part number, but you might need to go to another dealership. I was told by one Chevy dealership they would not install the anchor for liability purposes. The other one near us installed 2 for free, no questions asked. If you have to fight them to put one in, I would feel better going to a place that does them routinely and doesn't question putting them in. That's just me. Hopefully someone has the part and your dealership will do the install without too much more hassle.

Yeah, I thought about another dealership but I got the EXACT same problem last year when I had my Ford Escort.

The Ford Dealership acted like they had NEVER even heard of such a thing before, and that until I came back with information, they wouldn't even help me.

Well, unfortunately for them, I came prepared with a whole folder full of papers and part numbers, and Ford's official stance on tether anchors, etc. That quieted them very quick :)

So hopefully this is just the same thing and one of the Tech's can help me with a part number. If that doesn't work, I will head to another dealership :)

i ran into that problem with the local chevy dealership they said that it couldnt be done (and i believed them having worked on that area of the car before) only to find the manual to the car i was trying to get them installed in and discovered in Canada they came with a tether for the center location and it had info on how Canadians could have them installed for free. I've found a site that claims to have the info about them but they want 14.95 before they'll let me read it. :(

Does your book have any info on a 91 chevy beretta (2 door gtz model if it matters).

Coming right up! lol

OK, for the '98 Mazda 626 sedan:
there are 3 weld nuts in the rear filler panel. The part # is:
GD7A-57-77X for both the center and outboard positions.

"Prices for the tether kit range from $11.00 to $35.99.
A tether anchor kit includes bolts and spacers and one anchor plate hardware. The kit provides installatoion for only one seating position in either the center or outboard position. Extra bolts and spacers are included because the center and outboard positions may require different length bolts and/or spacers."

I couldn't find the Beretta listed, even though my manual says that most post-1989 vehicles can have them installed. I don't have part #s, but the service bulletin is:99-09-40-004. If you want a copy of it, I'm sure I could fax it to you or mail you a photocopy. According to the service bulletin, parts numbers can be found in the GMSPO Parts Catalog. (Group 14.870 for passenger cars.) They can also be found in Accessories Group 21.042.
Both parts and labor for installation is supposed to be free.
HTH!
