seat belt length

I have a 92 Dodge shadow 2 door. I want to put two car seats in the back seat. One rear facing and one forward facing. The shoulder belt works fine with the car seat forward facing. The problem is when I tried to put it rear facing with the shoulder belt it was about 4 inches too short to latch. Is there an extension I can put on to extend the belt so it will buckle?

I'm not familiar with seatbelt extenders. If you do find such a product, please contact the manufacturer of your carseat to make sure it is compatible.

Many convertible rear facing carseats have a second beltpath for the lap and shoulder belts. It usually isn't any longer than the belt path in front facing mode. If you don't find another solution, I would suggest trying a new carseat, or taking your current seat to a local child passenger safety technician.

I would bet that you are using the forward facing belt path

As Caviller said, there are two different belt paths on a convertible seat - one for rear facing and one for forward facing. The belt path for rearfacing usually comes over the seat part of the carseat and would require no more length than a normal person would require. I'm almost certain that if the belt isn't long enough that you are trying to use the forward facing belt path which goes behind the carseat. Check your owner's manual to be sure you understand the proper installation for rearfacing. There should also be stickers on the side of the seat that illustrate rearfacing and forward facing usage.
