Do all seat parts expire, too?

Seats expire after ~6 years depending on the seat, but do all the parts expire with it?

Covers obviously don't.
Chest clips?
Buckles?
Straps?
HUGS?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what the technical answer is, but I would not feel comfortable using anything that secures your child into the seat after the expiration date (buckles and harness I would surely never use past the expiration date). A chest clip is really just a pre crash positioner, so I don't really see the harm here. And the HUGS don't hold the child into the seat so I would be ok with that as well.

I'm not suggesting anyone use an expired harness, but we certainly don't go around replacing the the belts in cars every 6 years. It's interesting to me how we treat the same materials differently depending on their use.

(Please, don't anyone use an expired harness! :))

I'm pretty sure seatbelts have a life span too - 10 years I think?

The only one of those I would maybe possibly consider using after expiration is a chest clip, since it's designed to break away in a crash -- but I would recommend against it anyhow.

Ok, thanks everyone. I had assumes the buckles and straps wouldn't be used, but I was mostly curious about the chest clip but figured the answer for the others could surprise me.

The reason I asked was a child I watch just got a Regent and his MA is expiring, but the Regent chest clip is tough for him to do so the mom was curious if she could switch them. I told her I would look into it for her. So I shall tell her that if she wants to it wouldn't be terrible, but most people recommend against it. Thanks!
