Century Ovation, 1997

Ok, just to prove I don't have a black/brown/tan vinyl fetish, Here is a century ovation from 1997. Two slots for the adjustable height t-shield. I nabbed this one off the curb on trash day before someone took it to use. It's in pretty good shape.

Well, that's more the era I can relate to.....my DS was born in 1997, his first convertable was very similar to that, but it was a Cosco Touriva T-shield. We were so excited when he hit 20lbs at 8 months, so we could turn him FF and he could look out the front window of our truck (no backseat!!) while he sat between DH and I  It is a blessing that we were never in a crash......

I LOVED that seat at the time, though so easy to get him in and out, we used it for DD too, then bleached the harness straps with VIM, and sold it......UGH - feeling guilty just thinking about it again!

I saw the same one for sale on CL the other day. Emailed the seller and got back "If you don't want somebody else to use it, why don't you buy it?"

Hey! I just 'traded' someone my Scenera for one of those (similar anyway). That one looks new compared to the one I got. The straps were stiff with gunk and twisted into ropes :(

My DS1 was in a t-shield seat when he was little. He was born in 1996.

Hi,
You are not planning to use that seat? Car seats need to be trashed in an unusable way when they turn 7 years old. T-shields are not good to use these days either.
Since that seat is 11 years old, I am guessing you have an antique car seat collection?

The OP definitely has no intention of using the seat, Cindy. That's why he said, "I nabbed this one off the curb on trash day before someone took it to use." :)

Actually every car seat has a expiration date determined by the manufacturer so there isn't a hard and fast rule that they become unusable at seven years. Most Britax expire at six years (the Frontier at nine) but a Radian has an eight year expiration date. Some seats even expire as early as five years. You really just need to read the manual to learn the specifics of your seat.

Yeah, that is one reason I bought my Radian, because it has an 8 year life. Where did you learn that car seats have 7 years? I would love documentation, so I can use the new Regent as extra year!

My ds was born in 97... the best thing that ever came out of Consumer Reports was their baby gear buying book telling me to buy a 5 point seat and showing a failing OHS seat... I guess they said some bad things about T-shields, too, but the main thing was 'Buy a 5 point!', lol.

My old century seat had a 7 year expiration. Safe kids told me to disregard the stamped expiration and go with 6 years. They took the seat. Most seats expire after 6 years.

I was just at the thrift store and had the manager trash an Evenflo seat from 1992. Maybe I should have bought it and sent it to classicseats? It was in great condition.

Ha, we just confiscated a T-shield with that exact same cover print on Sunday at a clinic! Along with an old Alpha Omega (the parents went down the road to BRU and came back with new seats! :D)

I have a FP t shield on my front porch. I think it is going to recycling on my next Portland trip!
