How important is anti rebound?

My SIL is pregnant and I'm helping her shop for baby stuff for my new niece. Anyway, we were looking at infant seats and I noticed that the Britax Companion is the only one that has the anti-rebound bar. How important is this feature? It's a very pricey seat to only use for a few months as my SIL only wants to use the bucket for a few months until she can move to a convertible.

I was thinking that since it's important to tether rear facing convertibles if you can, why no anti-rebound feature on most infant seats? Does the handle (if you can leave it up) act as an anti-rebound bar of sorts?

Oh and ftr she's picked out a snugride with eps and a front adjuster. The safeseat and keyfit are more than she wants to spend on a bucket that she doesn't want to use for more than a couple months.

TIA :)

Personally, I love the anti-rebound. For the record, if she has LATCH in her vehicles, the Baby Trand Latch-Loc with rigid LATCH (available at Target) is anti-rebound too and is about $100.

I don't worry about anti rebound for infant seats, personally...if she likes the Snugride, she should go for it (Safeseat is still much easier to install, and www.albeebaby.com usually has one for $99...I know it's 'big', but it's really so easy to install I have to throw in an extra vote for it ;) )

For me the price of the Companion and the pain in the butt it is to install in some vehicles makes it not worth it. I'd rather get something like the SS1 and use it longer.

While I prefer it in a convertible, I guess I have never really thought of it for an infant seat. I have a Safeseat for Ilana and I loved it. The Combi Shuttle has anti-rebound too, but there's a big recall on the base right now and I'm not sure if the new base is out yet. The AR part is on the seat though so it'd still have that feature w/ no base.
