True Fit - am I measuring wrong?

We've just started using our new True Fit (Misty Morning, if that makes a difference). I was expecting it to have a higher top harness slot....I am
measuring about 16.5 inches. I've read it's supposed to be closer to 18 inches.
I measured roughly in the middle of the slot, but don't think it would be 18
even at the top. Did they change something? Or am I doing this all wrong? I
pushed down on the seat pad and measured straight up.
I know DS fits differently in this vs his MA...he is at the top slot in that with plenty of room. In fact I plan to try moving him down a slot.
So what happened? He fits in the True Fit now (at 41 inches) but I cannot see how it could possibly hold a 50" child, harness length notwithstanding.

How are you measuring? are you measuring with the cover off or on? The cover can be deceiving and make a slot look like it is higher or lower than it really is. When I measured to the top of the top slot the seat I measured appeared to be close to 18".

I removed the cover from the back, and pushed down on the bottom. I'm going to go try again, but I've already measured 3 times - and I also can tell by how my son fits. It's very strange to me...

ETA - alright, I guess I can see how, bare bones, it would be close to 18". Thanks!
strange how my son seems to stretch to fit the highest slot no matter what seat he's in!

Is the seat installed in your car? Perhaps once it is, it will fit him a bit differently too. Good Luck!

I thought it's highest slots were supposed to be just about the same as the MA.

Thank you, everyone! I remeasured and got closer to what you found, Kalinky.
t101 -Yes, the seat is installed.
I tried him on the second to the top slots and they were too low.
thepeach80 - He's definitely got more room in the MA.
Maybe it's my car? Oh well, I like the seat well enough, having scored on that big discount (big thanks to whomever posted that, btw!)
Not sure I would be so happy with it at full price, but it will definitely work as a second seat. And his little brother will surely get some use out of it too. I was just surprised my boy didn't have more room in it.

I measure just over 18" with the cover on, pushed down but not super squished. Ours has the Monet cover. My 5yo DD has about an inch more room in the TF than she does in the MA :twocents:

My measurements were taken while uninstalled. The measurements shouldn't be different whether it's installed or not. A child's fit in the seat will most likely be different installed vs. uninstalled though.

I get the same measurement both installed and in the house.
