True Fit Install FR

I cant use one of my TF Lockoffs due to a button on my seat belt. I dont want to remove the button since its part of my van. Is one lock off enough? Pictures of the two lockoffs.

Also do I have to get some pool noodles to make the seat more reclined? DS is in this seat he is 15 lbs 8.5 months and likes to be more up right.

I am also having trouble getting the harness tight enough on him. I can get the straps even but I am having a hard time tighting the harness with out pulling on the straps from behind the seat just above the splitter plate. This is getting to be a PITA. I dont know if I want to keep this seat.

It was stated in another thread by at least one CPST that you could take the buttons off (they pop off). I for the life of me cannot remember what the thread it was in though. I too wouldn't be comfy popping the buttons off either though. :/

The only porpose of the button is to keep the latchplate from sliding so low it is hard to reach ;). I have removed a few. It only leave a pinhole size hole in the seatbelt webbing that disappears after awhile. It is not a safety feature of the webbing.

As for the recline all I can tell you is Learning Curve requires a 45 degree angle. I spoke diractly with someone who went ot the engineers with the question for me. You can make a parental descision to install more upright, but it is not approved by the manufacturer.

I can't lock both of mine because the actual plastic part that the seat belt threads through (the part of the seatbelt itself) is in the way of the lock-off. I can only get the one farthest from the belt stalk fastened. I tried twisting the stalk to see if that would help, but it doesn't.

So, I too would like to know if only one lock-off rf is okay. (as it is with Britax) It specifies both in the manual. I haven't moved it to the garage to check the incline (it's on a sloped driveway), but it appears pretty upright also.

If I recall correctly at Lifesavers when they did the manufacturer workshop with Learning Curve I believe they said both lockoffs needed to be used and you can still lock the seatbelt. I will double check with a couple of people and post back if I am incorrect.

It would not hurt to call though to see what they say.

I called Learning Curve and they told me first to go to a local fire department and see if the "trained" professionals could get it installed. I told her I was pretty good at installs and that I just wanted to know if it would be acceptable to use only one lock-off. She said as long as there wasn't movement (the install is otherwise solid) that one lock-off rf would be fine.

So, that is how I have it--one lock-off locked. If any techs have suggestions for getting my seatbelt out of the way of the lock-off so that I can use both, please chime in.

I don't have my seatbelt locked because it makes my seat tip to the side too much. If I had LATCH I'd be set. :)

We had the same issue with the button when we first installed our seat. I think if you use anything such as a tightly rolled up towel or a pool noodle to increase the recline even a tiny bit, it should change the belt position so you won't be trying to close the lock off over the belt. Also, w/o the pool noodle I was able to close the lock off by giving the belt a tug and then closing the lock off at the same time. Let us know if you get the lock off closed.

Thanks Everyone

I have decided to sell the TF to my friend who really needed another seat and would not pay $200 but she could do $99. So I hace put DS back in the MA in my van.

In the thread linked above, New grandma stated:

"Hi. I have the True Fit for my Grandson and I called and talked to an engineer at True fit about the lock offs. He said that the latch could be used with or with out them, if you do use them, be sure to tighten all the way before locking off. He also told me that with my seat belt install I could use either one or both. I still am not sure, because the manual definately says and shows to use both lock offs rear facing with latch or seat belt install."
