Wow! No wonder I didn't have a carseat (born in '77). My parents melted their class rings down to sell the gold and buy me baby shoes. :( $35 for a carseat back then was a lot. I got a Scenera on sale at Big Lots for $35! In 2007!

We grew up w/very low income and both my brother and I had seats-he being born in 1978 and myself in 1979. So for them to spend that much in seats, that is pretty cool to know. My grandma saved JCPenney catalogs from the year that we were born, but I left mine there when she showed it to me a year agoish. She also has 1 for my oldest brother that was born in 1975.

I am pretty sure I had the one that was marked $29.99 My Dad's mom worked at Sears, so I wouldn't be surprised if her discount played a huge roll in that. They did NOT have money. I was born in the middle of an economic crash in 1980.

That's such a great idea! We have the newspaper from the day DS was born, but a catalogue would be so interesting!

ETA: It is good to see you again, classicseats!

Gah, I posted this in an older thread by mistake.

I love these old seat pictures, and every time I see them, I wonder what I rode in. So I finally got around to asking my parents. My twin sister and I rode home from the hospital, in 1972, in GM Love Seats. I'm not sure yet if they were the infant (RF) or child (FF) seats, since both went under that name (I've emailed Dad to ask). Dad says when they found out there were two of us (which, they didn't find out until Mom delivered us!), the first thing he bought a second of, was a second child seat.

Mom says when we got too tall for the Love, we moved into harnesses from Sears, and booster cushions.

Dad says the security guard at the hospital agreed that Dad had the right to take us home any way he wanted, but was certain we should be held by someone, for our safety--not put in some seat!

In early 1978, my parents bought me a $50 carseat! They said it was one of the most expensive ones on te market, but my grandmother insisted that it was "the best." :p

Hey Classicseats! You're back!

Thanks for posting that -- very interesting. The print is hard to read, but interesting that they mention FMVS and deceleration in the descriptions.

I was just talking to my dad tonight and he was describing what kind of carseat he put my sister in, in 1977, and this is it!!

I had a seat similar to the one in the bottom left hand corner for $24.99. I was born in 1972. However I distinctly remember being about 3yo and we got in a minor accident. I was buckled into the seat but the seat wasn't buckled into the car. I hit the seat in front of me with the side of my face. I had some scratching and bruising but was ok. Although I never did forget it.
