Our local consignment shop

So, I went into a local consignment shop today and another customer was asking the owner about bringing in car seats. The owner said, and I quote "they must be less than 1.5yrs old, so that gives me six months to sell it, since car seats should not be used after two years". WTH? She had me at 1.5yrs and totally lost me at 2 yrs. I was thinking, wow, at least they won't have expired seats here, but geesh! Get a clue lady!

I wonder if she meant they should not be sold after being 2 years old. I agree with that, then the second owner will be able to use the seat for ~4 years which is reasonable for a second hand seat. I can see many people unwittingly buying a 5 year old seat expecting to use it for 4-5 years themselves...

Especially convertibles or boosters. I'm ok with selling a 4 yo infant seat just because most people only use them for a couple months.

But it really doesn't matter because I've never seen a consignment or thrift shop take the age of the seat into consideration with price. Why pay $35-40 for a used 4yo seat when you can pay the same price and get one that's half as old:confused:

Carseats at consignment shops make my stomach wiggle. It doesn't help that everyone I've seen has been really old. Funny, it tends to be the cheapest possible seats that are way over expired and they're still marked at $20 bucks or so. No thank you.
