The general rule of thumb is - if it didn't come with the car seat, then don't use it. I just wouldn't, personally. Why do you want to, is there something wrong with your existing cover and straps?

nope just wondering for general purposes. saw a pic of a friends baby with HUGE pillow like things attached to the straps around her chest/shoulder area. they we're cute but i had thought i read some where before they are a no no.

Some of those are huge on the top and flat on the bottom, so they may not be as awful as first glance, but they do push the chest clip down and give a false sense of security with the tightening of the harness, which is a recipe for ejection.

Aftermarket covers are not tested with the seat, they're not flame retardant, and they may interfere with the harness system, which again may cause ejection, or even injury from the harness itself.

I saw a baby with those huge pillow ones, but the flat on the bottom type - he had a huge helmet so his mom said without them his head flops too much (he was 100 days old, I met her at the JcPenny photo thing they were having pics done for that!). I did get her to tighten the straps/move the chest clip up though.
I convinced dh to tell her the straps were super loose, I wish I could talk to people grr.
