carseat sighting at the mall

OK, I just got back from the mall and just had to share what I saw. . .

The scene: minivan parked in the lot

In the 3rd row were two carseats installed. The first seat was a Husky/Regent. Yeah! Bonus points for extended harnessing and so great to see that seat since most people in my area don't even use carseats at all. The second seat was an infant carrier. The problem? It was installed forward-facing! Minus points for that one.

What amazes me is the seeming contradiction going on here. . .I don't think it's often that parents go to great lengths to improve the safety for one child, yet simultaneously drastically reduce it for another.

If the infant seat was installed FF (HOW is it physically possible to do this?) I'd bet it was a Husky, and a possibly expired one

I think many parents went out and bought regents w/o really understanding why they were except that a really sad and tearjerking youtube video told them to.

Could they possibly have been using the infant seat as a doll's seat for a child riding in the Britax? I've heard of people doing that before.

Some Huskys can still have a couple of years left on them. Mine expire in December of this year with a DOM of '02, but some have DOMs of "03 and possibly '04.:)

You know, when we had my DD's in the bucket seats, I had a hard time unbuckling and getting them out at that angle. I would usually pop the seat out of the base, take the baby out, and then leave the bucket sitting sideways or FF on the seat. I really don't see how you can "install" an infant seat FF without leaving the handle up and just buckling the belt over it. So, if you get the kid out you would have to unbuckle unless you are a gymnast. It's quite possible they just left the seat sitting like that :twocents:
