After speaking with Britax, Sunshine Kids, Graco, Doral & Compass. All stated if your vehicle has a higher then the standard (40-48lbs) LATCH weight limit you can use LATCH on their seats to the vehicles full LATCH weight limit. Of course follow your vehicles LATCH weight limit and if it's not in there then contact the manufacture for that info or ask one of us with a LATCH manual and we can get that info for you.

What about Toyota? :dizzy:

They stated if the vehicle manufacture did not state a weight limit or referred back to the car seat manufacture they said error on the side of caution and stop using LATCH at 48lbs. All said it wouldn't be their system that failed if it were to happen. In your situation I would stop using LATCH at 48lbs just to be safe.

One good thing from Lifesavers re: LATCH weight limits is that NHTSA is trying to figure out if they can definitively say LATCH can be used up to 65 pounds. They realize with the increase in seats that harness to higher weights is causing confusion and misuse with LATCH. There was a workshop on LATCH, and NHTSA said they are trying to work with the vehicle manufacturers and carseat manufacturers to figure out LATCH weight limits.

 This is great news! Thanks for sharing. Let's hope they don't take forever to make a decision on this!!

This is interesting - especially as in the Britax manuals they state if there is no limit to stop using LATCH at 40lbs. I wonder if they will be updating their instruction manuals to reflect this new advice? Should we be going against the instruction manuals prior to the change (if it is coming?)
