Is there any reason to move dd out of her infant seat before she hits the weight or height limit? She has about 1.5 inches in torso height and 4 lbs to go. My son hated his seat and was in a convertible by age 3 months. I want to buy her a new seat in the next 6 weeks just in case she has a growth spurt but is there any reason to move her sooner?

If you're happy, she's happy, and she fits, there's no need to rush to move her. Assuming she fits equally well in the convertible and the infant seat, any rear facing seat is very safe.
