Need car seat suggestions

My daughter is almost 4.5 years old. I am not sure on her height but I know she weighs over 40 lbs. (probably 42 at the most).

We have a booster right now that was around $80 but the top strap slot is right at her shoulders without a coat on and under her shoulders with her winter coat on. I am thinking of taking it back and putting the $$ towards a Britax Regent or a Radian 80.

I want her in a 5 pt harness as long as possible, so I want the one with the highest strap slots. I drive a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan and have bucket seats in the middle (that's where the girls' carseats are).

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to which is better or is there one I should look into that I haven't even mentioned? Thanks!

The Regent will allow you to keep your daughter harnessed for as long as possible, it has the highest harness slots of any car seat (besides the ones for special needs children). The Regent is a very big seat, so if you plan on moving it around a lot it might be troublesome. But other than that, its a very comfortable seat. Hopefully someone will chime in about compatibilty with a grand caravan

What seat is she in right now? name of the seat? brand?

Most combination seats (forward facing only, convert from harnessed seat to belt positioning booster)that cost under $120, have a 40 pound weight limit. If your seat has a 40 pound weight limit she isn't safe using the harness in it anymore, you need to buy a higher weight seat or convert the seat to booster mode and secure her with the seatbelt instead of the harness.

I would take it back, and get a Regent or a Graco Nautilus.

And no coats in car seats :) I have a fussy baby but I'm sure someone else would be so kind as to explain why.

ETA: You need to check the manual and/or stickers on the seat, but your seat probably only harnesses to 40 pounds. You'll need to take the harness out and/or replace it ASAP.

I wouldn't buy a Radian80. It has the same harness height of the Radian65, so it is unlikely that you will get the last 15 pounds of use out of it. I don't know a lot about the Regent.

Have you considered any other seats? I have a Graco Nautilus and love it. It harnesses to 65 pounds, then becomes a booster, both high back and low back. It is really easy to install.
