infant carseat handle

can anyone tell me why you should put the handle down on infant carseats? i thought it had something to do with cocooning, but wanted to make sure. thanks, kate :)

Some companies require you to have the handle down while others require it to be up or either because that is how they were tested.


You have to go by what the manual says and they don't usually say "why" the handle has to be up or down or either so all we know is that is how the seat was tested.
 
Graco Snugrides can have multiple positions that are acceptable. The manual will tell you what positions are ok. The position of the handle, depending on manufacturer, can help with rebound of the seat and cradling or cocooning as the op mentioned. Some positions are not allowed, so always check the manual.
