2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser...locking seatbelts?

I had no success lately at getting the backseat seatbelts to lock in this vehicle.

No matter how slowly or how far out I pulled them, they never locked.

This vehicle does have LATCH and it wasnt a huge deal, but I was really hoping to show my mom that her shoulderbelts can be locked so it makes for an easy install.

Any ideas?

Are you sure it doesn't lock at the latchplate? Many Chrysler vehicles do- especially in that timeframe. That would make for an even easier install- just buckle, tighten, and do the top tether.

If you aren't familiar with how a locking latchplate works- try sitting in the seat and buckling the seatbelt over you. The lapbelt shouldn't budge if it's a locking latchplate. They lock when the lap and shoulder portions of the belt are parallel to each other and the buckle tongue.

here's a picture of the type you usually see on a lapbelt. the l/s kind are usually the lightweight ones, but it's the same principle.

It isn't. I looked.

I installed the Signo in it, and it was just a slidey piece of plastic on the seatbelt, like my Sedona belts. It appeared that the only way to lock it would have been at the vehicle wall by pulling it out all the way.

If It had been like those pictures, I'm sure I could have easily locked it.

Chrysler uses light weight locking latchplates - they aren't as big and bulky as the ones in that illustration. As soon as DH gets home I'll take a pic of the ones in my Jeep so you can see what they look like. He took my camera to work with him.

My sil has a 2005 PT Cruiser and it has the ones where you pull it out all the way and the let it go back into lock it, but it was a pain and I had to try a bunch of times to get it to catch and work, the one in the middle worked better than the side ones.

ahhh ok. Maybe that''s what they looked like.

I will keep an eye out for that. I have to put a seat in for dd in a few days and it'll be a fast install. I just couldn't make that thing lock before!
