Marathon latch bar comparison

I hope the difference shows up in the pics, not sure if you can see it. The new marathon with the 35# rf limit has a textured latch bar. The old marathon has a smooth, shiny one.

I couldn't get a clear pic of the old one close up, I think because of the poor lighting in my garage. You can kind of see how the light reflects off it more than the new one.

Cool...like powder coated instead of painted...

I wouldn't say that. I worked in a big boom manufacturing plant and powder coat painted many parts myself. The texture of the finished product has to do with what the raw product looked like pre-painting.
Powder coat finishes on smooth surfaces came out smooth, and on not smooth surfaces came out textured.

i wonder if they switched to the textured coating to reduce sliding of the belt along the bar in an accident (and therefore reduce seat movement)?

The new one kind of reminds me of my anodized steel cookware! It isn't real rough, but I did notice I had to "help" the latch straps move along it more than the shiny one.

Have you noticed any other differences between the 33 and 35 pounders? I'd be curious to know if the different bar affects the weight limits or is it just a different bar--different supplier, different paint or manufacturing process?

Good eye for catching the difference!
