How many of your infant bases...

...moved at the front of the base? I know its allowed, but I don't like it. I recently installed a ss1 base in my car and after reading a few posts about how ppl have broken their bases by overtightening it, I'm having second thoughts about reinstalling it. See, when I installed it, it darn near bruised my hand I was pushing so hard to click the latchplate in and the front still moves. I was going to get it in tighter, then I read the thread about overtightening and now I'm not sure if its worth the risk...since its not moving at the belt path and all...but I KNOW its possible to get that sucker in without it moving at all. I've done it with a lap/shoulder belt. (I'm using a lap only now)

Would you still reinstall it? And does your base move like that?

I had a snugride. I could move always move the front of the base. I had it super tight and had it checked by a tech. Personally, I think I was just used to the rock solid install on a roundabout with RF tether.

Every infant seat base is going to move at the end furtherst from the seatbelt. If it isn't moving at the belt path you have no reason to try to re-install it.

My SS1 base moves at the front also and I have a solid tight install with latch.:) I have never liked it moving either, but I was afraid of overtightening it also.

I had the same thing with my snugride. You sound like you have a good install, but when you are more used to installing seats for older kids, you get used to and very comfortable with a nice solid, couldn't move it if I tried kind of installs. That just isn't really possible with a base for a bucket seat though.
