More True Fit Pics plus questions

(Added the pics)We got our Casino True Fit and I think I love it though I do have some questions. First, I got a great install, but the way you install with LATCH is quite interesting. It appears as though you have to use the lock offs even for the LATCH belt (as you would with the seat belt)...good think I read the manual.. right? By using the lockoffs it really improves the LATCH install but it seems weird to me that I can't get a super tight LATCH install without using the lock offs. Is it okay to "rely" on the lock offs for the tight install? The strange thing is that on the way home from dinner, I think one of the lock offs might have unlocked... I'm trying to figure out if that is even possible; however, the seat seemed a little looser than when I installed it and I removed the cover and it was opened. I'm going to keep my eye on this but am wondering if this is a safety concern.

The next interesting thing about this seat is the line on the side of the seat that has to be parallel to the ground for it to be at the proper recline. I know that DS doesn't need it to be parallel at his age but I can't even imagine how reclined the seat has to be for it to be parallel. It isn't a matter of the sticker being wrong b/c there's also arrows on the seat that are part of the molded seat that show where the line should go and it is in the right place. I'll include a pic of this crazy line. With any reasonable amount of recline I have no problem using the harness adjuster even in my mom's car an MB E350 (where it is installed right now) and her seats are somewhat flat.

Now, I think I will use a towel to get just a little extra recline since DS's head was bobbing a tiny bit with the current level of recline. Can I just use a really tightly wound up towel and put it under the seat as close to the seat bight as possible? I think I"ll cut a towel in half otherwise it seems to bulky.

DS at 90% height and weight.. and height being mostly torso is just barely over the 2nd harness slot (at 2 years) so I don't think the 1st and 2nd harness slots only being able to be used when RFIng will be a problem. I have a lot of space until the next slot and by the way DS is eating lately, I think he is going to grow out of the extra 2 lbs RFing pretty quickly:(

I so cannot wait for pics! I really want to see the Casino! Is there any chance you could take a pic of the bottom of the seat? I would really like to see the part that is going to be sitting ON the vehicle seat (the underneath of the True Fit, the part you wouldn't see once it is installed).

Hi. I have the True Fit for my Grandson and I called and talked to an engineer at True fit about the lock offs. He said that the latch could be used with or with out them, if you do use them, be sure to tighten all the way before locking off. He also told me that with my seat belt install I could use either one or both. I still am not sure, because the manual definately says and shows to use both lock offs rear facing with latch or seat belt install. It also says and shows using the one FF lock off with both latch and belt. I decided to just get as tight an install as I could (It really tightened well and easily) and then I used both lock offs as well. I also had to use a rolled towel to get the recline for a newborn. I showed pics to the tech forum and some said it looked too reclined but the line is level with the ground. One other thing- he said to lock both the lap and shoulder belt in the lock offs. Does this sound okay? I really like the seat and the baby fits in well and looks and acts comfortable!

Let me try again with the pics...

1. See the red line on the side of the seat.. imagine it parallel with the ground.

2. Next pic is of the LATCH and seatbelt lock offs under the cover

3. DS in seat. See the next harness slot (3) is the approximately where the notch is in the cover. The current slot is just slightly below DS's shoulders.

If DS goes to bed nicely (we're at my parents house and bedtime is more of a challenge here) then I can post more pics. I also took a video of how much movement.. or the lack there of.. I got with the install.

I also wanted to add something about the harness adjuster. I know someone had posted that the harness is hard to adjust to fit over the child. I thought my seat had this same issue and then I tried using the Blvd tightening technique... Tug Tug Tug and found that the harness continued to tighten. When you first pull the adjuster you tighten it a lot and as it gets closer you need to do many smaller tugs. As far as adjusting the height of the harness, it was so easy. Just push in the two buttons and lift:)

Wow, I'm impressed with the height room in the seat. How is it width wise? And how would you consider leg room in comparison to the MA? I know that legs aren't an issue, but I've noticed a great deal of variation between different seats so I'm curious.

I think he has a bit more space for his legs than in his Blvd and that will improve a bit more with some more recline. As for height compared to an MA, we don't have one but it looks like he will have a little more head room though the top harness slot heights seem to be similar. Width wise w/o the cup holder attached, my mom and I were just barely able to sit in the back seat with him when we had to fill up the car. I don't think another seat could fit in the middle... but I have no practice with fitting many children in a car since I have only one child:)

Thanks for this info. I think I'll use the lock offs for now since it helps the installation. As for the recline, I'm going to try a rolled towel but I am not going to recline it all the way. It just seems so reclined when that line is parallel to the ground. Perhaps for a newborn it is good but for my DS, I think he's have a fit:) As for the locking the lock offs, I think that you lock both the lap and shoulder parts on the Britax seats so I guess it consistent with their manual. I haven't tried the install with the seat belt... maybe I will later today.

If you do remove the seat to try a seatbelt install, would you be able to take a pic of underneath the seat? I am needing to know if it might be more forgiving on the seats in my parents car, as the Marathon is a bit tough on them and there seems potential for permanent deformation of the vehicle seat.

They shipped it the same day and we received it two days later (though we are in the same state as the store).
