Previa - rotating captain chairs

A friend of mine has a Toyota Previa with middle row captain chairs that rotate FF/RF ... she has an infant RF (captain chair is FF) & a big kid about to outgrow his Marathon (FF in FF chair) ... she wants to hand the MA down to the infant who is outgrowing the carrier seat & wants to get highback Turbo booster for big bro to use - with the captain RF now. My 1st thought was that it's a good idea to be RF, but I can't remember if - like harness seats - there might be a restriction for using boosters in RF seats (I know they can't be used on side-facing seats) ... if so, is it just because they aren't tested that way? Might this be one of those "parental decision" things

I can't remember where I saw it, but somewhere in the last couple days, I saw a diagram showing that the seats should only be put into a forward facing vehicle seat. I don't know if it was just something about a specific seat though.

Just thinking outloud here, but if a rf seat keeps you safe by having shoulder straps below the shoulders so user doesn't slide up and out, then being in a booster with a three point belt would not provide that kind of protection.
Why do the seats have the ablity to face rear? Does the manual allow the seat to be rf with a passenger while moving? If so then maybe there is no difference between a 'boostered' passenger and belted one ( except for what the booster co. has to say about it)????
Waiting to hear what the experts say :)

I lost you on the shoulder thing - baaaaad day for me today @@

Anyway, yes, we had a Previa when I was in high school ... I'm guessing that manual said it was OK for passengers to ride RF because I always did =/

i doubt the manufacturer of the seat would allow this. Every seat manual i've ever read says to only use the seat in a FF seat.

Also my friends mom has a volvo station wagon with a rear facing seat int eh 'trunk' area and it forbids the use of any car seat. It says in bold the seat should only be used by adult passengers when no other seat is available.

We had a van that the seats could turn to face this little table (a conversion van) and the manual said the seats need to face the front when ever the van was moving. I think the rotation is for convenience for sitting in the car and everyone can talk and stuff like that.

Yes, for harness seats I remember this, too ... but I don't remember it being in the Turbo manual

Hmmm, well, I know that some of the RF 3rd row add-on seats are specifically for kids, although I am guessing not kids in harness seats (the pics show kids that look to me like they should be in boosters but aren't)....

The Previa doesn't have any kind of table, but I'm sure that it could have merely been a matter of the car salesmen & my parents not reading the manual: when we were sold the vehicle, the sales guy made a big deal about how much safer it was for me to ride RF

I don't have a Previa or Turbo manual to read, though & I don't know this mom well enough to dig into her dash board, LOL :p

I would recommend to her that she check in both the vehicle owners manual and the boosters manual to determine whether its safe. If either of them say no to rear facing, then she shouldn't do it. I've also heard before that the rotating seats are only meant to be rotated while the van is not being driven.
