If you were having to take a child to the hospital, not in your car, and the was a seat installed FF, and your child was under 20lb/12 months or so, would you expect the driver to turn it RF or would you turn it RF, or would you take the child to the hopsital FF to reduce waiting time?

A friend picked me and Lexi up at Walmart once, and I turned her weat around in the parking lot. i know that is different than the hospital, though. I will admit to *gulp* holding Lexi in my BIL's truck once to take her to the hospital. She was having severe breathing problems, and DH had the car and car seats. Kamille sat in the lap only belt in the center. But, if there had been room for two carseats, they would have had properly installed car seats. I could not make the decision of which child to protect the most by using a car seat, so my rationality in the moment of having a sick baby was neither one in a seat. I dont know what I would do now. I couldn't drive BIL's truck (stick shift) or I would ask him to stay at home with Kamille and take Lexi in her seat. I think he was supposed to go back to work though, and then just didn't. DH then made me really mad by not coming to the hospital, so then we had to repeat the experience on the way home :(

it totally depends on the situation. if i felt it were truly a life or death situation, and time was of the essence, hell, i'd totally let her go FF. if she had to go to the ER because she just needed stitches, i'd probably spend the time to RF the seat.

I would rearface it myself. If it were so much of an emergency that I didn't "have the time", I'd call 911.

Depends what the situation was. Piper rode in a backless booster (rated from 40 pounds) at just over three years old when our neighbor took a header into our coffeetable and needed a staple. She was bleeding pretty badly, we couldn't see exactly what was going on, so we got into the mom's minivan. The neighbor went in her backless booster (at only 34 pounds herself, I got them to buy her a high back booster), the cousin went in the third row where she luckily passed the five step test (at age six), and Piper went into the cousin's backless. It was a mile and a half up the road and back. Piper did just fine, holding our neighbor's hand (who was NOT doing fine, she was leaning forward and moving about, and she's so little a locked seatbelt doesn't do much to keep her where she needs to be. Even now at nearly 7 years old). So for blood and a head injury, yes I would have let Piper ride forward facing for the ride there at least (can rear face when things have calmed).

If it's a question of needing a diagnosis or treatment? Then probably not. I'd reinstall the seat. Something that can wait two minutes.

If we're just talking about going to the hospital because someone's injured, not life or death I would rf. Anything more then that and I'm calling 911, of course I've had to call 911 more then the average person so I'm ok with that.
