What to do now??

I weighed DS tonight after dinner and w/ a sweatshirt on (no shoes). We had just arrived home from dinner. He weighed 32.5lbs. He will be 2 in less than two weeks. I am purchasing a True Fit for the 35 lbs RFing limit as soon as the Casino or Misty Morning covers become available. We no longer own the Como seat. I don't think the covers I want will be available until sometime in April... even close to the end of April. Should I weigh DS each time I leave the house to make sure he isn't over the 33lb limit? Now that the weather is warmer I can try to keep him in lighter clothes I guess. Should I e mail russ at SKJP to ask if he would give approval to use this seat to 33.5 or so... just in case?

Personally? What would I do? Not sweat it too much - weigh him every couple of days. I can't see that 33lbs is fine and 33.1 or 33.2lbs would fail... but then again, this is just what I would do, not what YOU SHOULD do. :twocents:

As the Britax Rep once told me, the weight limit is 33 pounds not 33.000000000000000001 -- my recommendation at a seatcheck would be to either check him each time you put him in the car (if you're prepared to take the time to be so diligent) or just turn the seat FF until the higher limit convertible arrives, preferable top tethered.... Then again, what I *personally* would do for my own child is use an inexpensive Scenera RF until the new seat arrives & just not be so picky about cover options if I don't like the Scenera :twocents: (RF without EPS foam, etc. is safer than FF, but following the directions is the bottom line)

I don't think I'd sweat it too much, especially knowing Britax is upping the RF limit to 35lbs without making any changes to the seat. I wouldn't use a 33 seat to 35, but I wouldnt worry about being a little over. After all, the manual doesn't say 33lbs with clothes and shoes, and even though we know that's the rule, most parents weigh their kids at the doctor's only and that's what they go by and I'm sure the seat manufacturers take that into consideration. I wouldn't tell other people to do that, but that's probably what I'd do.
That being said, if you're buying another seat for the 35 limit it doesn't make sense to wait too long for a specific cover though. isn't there any that you like available now?

I'm the kind of person who likes to have spares around -- spare convertible to meet certain needs at certain times and/or spare covers in case of messes....

The only cover available right now is Cappuccino and my car interior is gray. I really can't stand that color combination. I would really take any cover over the the Cappuccino... Why is it that that one had to be available first??:(
Since we will have this seat for a while... I really want it to be right!``

Compass said their spare covers will be available for 29.99 + shipping - not bad at all - and since all their harnesses are black, you should be fine!! You could probably sell the cappuccino to offset the new cover when it comes available.

But, does color combination supercede kiddo's safety? You can purchase the cover you want separately when it's available.

No no.. of course not. I think by being as crazy about car seats as I already am shows I would never compromise his safety over a car seat cover... I'm just trying to figure out the best way to eek out as much time in our current seat before having to purchase a new seat. I think if cover was more important that safety... I wouldn't be buying a whole new seat for 2 extra RFing lbs.

Hmm... now that's a good idea. $29.99 is so reasonable for a cover.. given typical Britax prices.

Possible solution to my problem! I e mailed Goores last night and they said they are getting the Misty Morning cover in stock very soon.. Perhaps in the next week!! With DS in just his diaper this morning he only weighed 31 lbs so I think we will be fine!

32.5 pounds without shoes is very likely 33 pounds with shoes. I would turn now or buy a Scenera.

Or at the very least, weigh him after dinner fully dressed with shoes and see what you get.

Home scales can vary a lot too. I'd be uncomfortable leaving my child RF at 32.-something pounds at almost 2 years old. I'd turn him, then turn him back when you get the higher-weight seat. :twocents:

I kept my dd1 rfing until the scale said 33#s. She was 2 y 7 m. Before that she sat at 32.4 for 3ish months. I weighed her often - she thought it was a game - fully dressed w/boots on. I felt fine leaving her rfing until she hit that 33#s. Now if her ma had a 35# limit, it would've taken her another year:eek:

LOL, good point (shoes off). We KNOW the seat was tested with at least the 34 pound 3 yo dummy, possibly a weighted dummy to 35 pounds. We KNOW it. That said, make your parental decision (hey, maybe tether it Australian style... overrotation is the only danger from a higher weight kid in an RF seat, and that prevents it)

;)
