Compass True Fit Pics

I just got back from seeing the Compass True Fit and I liked it. We took it out and installed it in our car and I have pics of DS in the seat in the store and inside of the car. I'm not worried about the harness height issue now as we have a lot of torso height left before the next slot. I will feel comfortable turning him FFing before then or he will reach the weight limit. All of the pics of the harness slot on the 3rd slot. We didn't have time to put it on the 2nd one but it gave me an idea of how long we'll be able to use it on the 2nd one. If I pushed down really hard on the seat bottom and measured to the top of the harness slot I could almost get 18". It's hard to tell where the harness will sit in the slot w/o switching the harness to that slot as the holes are pretty big. DS looks like he'll have a lot of growing room in this seat. I took a comparison pic of the seat next to a Como and they are the same height except the True Fit doesn't have a tall base like the Como does.

I was worried that the harness adjuster would be a problem b/c of it's position at the very front of the seat but my car's seat is indented enough that it is not an issue. Also, the harness was easy to adjust once I learned how to lift the lever.

1st pic - comparison shot
2nd pic - top harness slot height - pen is in the top slot hole but it is not at the top of the hole
3rd - DS in the seat

P.S. Excuse the messy car... I just got back from a short road trip and haven't had a chance to take everything out.

thanks for the pictures. :)

do you have to unthread the harness to change slots? I thought it slid somehow- kind of like the old Triumphs.

It does slide... but I didn't have much time to try it out. It was on the harness slot in which I was most interested. It doesn't look hard to do though.

If you have a super flat seat back then it would be an issue. My seat is a little deeper so I can easily get to it.

That looks pretty good. What kind of car do you have it in? How does the harness compare to your Blvd harness? Do you know how it compares to a Roundabout harness? Hmmm...you may just have put this seat back in the running for me.

At our USA Baby that bottom shelf where the Regent, etc usually are... I leave the seat there to take pictures. It's only like 6 inches off the ground and it's solid wood, not the flimsy Babies R Us type ones... lol Am I awful??? With the exception of the lighter seats, I will move to the vehicle bench. But only if my shoulder cooperates that day...

one more question- did you leave it up on the shelf when you put your kid in it for pics? :p

The shelf was huge.. quite deep and quite sturdy and it wasn't far off the floor. There was no way the seat was going anywhere. It was in recline mode and was completely secure.:) Obviously I would never have put him up there if he was in any danger at all.

I have a Mercedes R 350. It installed pretty easily though a little more difficult than a Blvd. or Marathon. It was a little hard to get the strap to begin tightening but once it did.. all was fine.

The more I think about it, I really want to go buy this seat now but I have to wait for the Casino cover as it's the only one that even remotely matches my car interior. The beginning of April seems so far away! I'm just glad I found a 35lb RFing seat that is going to work for us.... btw... it does seem to have the same strap as the Como and Signo, I'm just hoping the twisting won't be an issue.

The display seat did not have a crotch pad as the Britax and other seat brands do... has anyone seen a crotch strap with it?

Was it heavy?

It wasn't super heavy. Seems like it weighed less than my Blvd. I carried it back into the store with one hand and pushed my stroller with the other b/c the store rep got tired of waiting for me out in the parking lot:)

Thanks for the pics. That seat kind of seems like it might be made for my vehicle's style of back seats (they are very curved with large side bolsters just like front seats), so I think we'd have no issues with the harness adjuster.

Did you ever find out about using the 3rd harness slot RF? (I know you got an email saying you could, and then someone else said the manual said you can't).

I haven't heard back about the 3rd harness slot. I just wrote back to them on Friday night. I really don't think it is much of an issue though. DS has at least 1.5 inches of torso room to grow right now before we get to the next slot. He's already at least 36 inches tall and mostly torso. He outgrew is SS1 for height at about 10.5 months:)

Wow, good to know. So he's fine on the 2nd slot for RF? That means that the 2nd slot should fit kids for a decent amount of time.

If the 2nd slot still fits your 36" tall child, how in the heck is this seat going to fit a 5 pound baby?

If you look in the 3rd set of pics... I have a pen in the 3rd harness slot to show how much higher it is than DS's shoulder.

ETA: The seat comes with a lot of extra padding infant padding that I took out for DS. He is plenty big for the seat without it. With the lowest slot and the padding I'm guessing it would fit a baby a lot better.

Ah padding, yes, I hadn't even thought about that.
