I was on my way back to my office from lunch and was stopped at an intersection. I car pulled up beside me and there was a baby (maybe 4-5 months old) in the back seat. The child was in an infant carrier, but it was turned FF and I could clearly see the seatbelt hanging there so I know it wasn't even installed.

I tried to get the license number but the car was turning left and I was going straight. As soon as the light turned green, the car sped off and another came behind it and blocked my view.

It's just absolutely awful that parents would even think of driving their child around like that.

Ah, yesterday I seen a child of about 2 without anything, an infant in an infant seat strapped in with out base and..................a child of about 18 mo in an infant seat, no straps, placed on the back seat sideways, head over the back of it, sleeping. I was looking with a nasty face on and the mom and her two other front seat passengers started to cuss me. I was soooo out of there.

last week or so, I was talking to one of my SIL's and was showing her how to install a car seat properly. she said she knew, but I showed her anyways :) (car seat is for a little boy she watches)

she was then telling me how one day when she dropped the kiddo off, her and the mom were going to hang out, so they were about to leave to go to the moms house (in moms car) and she just tossed the seat into the back seat and strapped in the boy! my SIL piped up and told her it needed to be installed, and mom said, its ok, we're just going across town.

:jaw: seriously?

Keep in mind kids straps are always too loose, chest clip by the crotch buckle, he FFed at 8 months, and wears a winter coat

edit

AND she's expecting in a few months

When I picked up my son from kindy today, there were 3 other parents picking up kids. One was about 2, picked up from daycare, plopped in the backseat, dad tenderly seatbelted him in and put the shoulder belt behind his back. One aunt picked up her niece and had a 15 mo with her (at least as small as my baby), 5 yo sits on the seat, baby ffing in an old comfort sport. Another 4ish yo sitting in a seatbelt, shoulderbelt behind her back. So sad, these people endangering kids lives.

Oh boy, I don't know I would react if I saw that!! I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut , I probably would have started lecturing them! One of my girlfriends has her tiny 3y/o in a booster and her 22lb. 19mo. old FF already. I have tried talking to her, several times, but she insists "their fine!" It drives me absolutly crazy :hitselfonhead:
I've even talked about and sent her info. on the Kyle David Miller Foundation but she just has no emotion on the matter.:(
What are you gunna do?

so wait, you just call the number to report misuse? what do they ask you? this is interesting...

i am not defending these morons but you must remember some of these parents may not know better and others may not have the means for new seats. and as sad as it may be a 7yr old seat is better then no seat at all.
like i said i don't defend them as some are just ignorant. for example a couple weeks ago a women had a daughter who was clearly over 1 and too big for the infant carrier but she was still in it. the mother was looking at seats in walmart and took out her wallet to count her money. i pretended to look at clothes but watch her. she had about 25 in small bills. i watched as she looked at the senera and then went and put the walmart diapers and formula in her cart and make her way to the front. my friend works there and i grabbed the senera and walked up front. my friend rang me out and i gave her the seat. she waited till the mother checked out and on the way gave her the seat i had bought telling her a women in babies saw her and wanted to buy her the seat. i saw her take it to the parking lot and actually take out the manual and install the seat. this women knew her child was too big for an infant seat but couldn't afford another.

In my state (MO) it is the Highway Emergency Number. You can use it for many reasons. I have used it for unrestrained children(one incident I know they received 2 tickets). This way I am not tying up 911 lines.
