Nope, not really.... I often prefer to add the following stress, though:

"Fits the child, fits the vehicle & is always used correctly according to both carseat + vehicle manauls" :)

and unofficially.. one that fits your BUDGET. No point going without food if you can't afford it. I know people take it for granted, the budget, I mean, but I think it's good to put in there because a lot of peoples budgets don't spread very far, and it's good for them to know that's OK too.

Fits your budget, your vehicle, your child, and that you'll use correctly is pretty much the useless mantra. It tells parents absolutely NOTHING.

I have to agree...people then get all wrapped up in wondering if their, say, 30 pound 2 yo 'fits' in a Marathon, for example...and most seats do fit in most cars nowadays...

Maybe we should come up with some concrete rules people can answer themselves and whip up a new mantra?
I can't think of anything better, though... but the 'used correctly on every trip' part is a good place to start...

It's not useless. When 'fits your budget' is added, with everything else, it tells parents not to give up because they can't afford a Britax. It's telling them that yes, even a cheap carseat can be safe, IF it's used correctly.

People roll their eyes at a lot of us advocates who recommend expensive Britaxes all the time. They assume we're telling them that if they don't spend $300 on a carseat, then their kid isn't safe. It's a good answer to the "what's the safest carseat" question, that is asked every single day on my local mommies board.

Right after someone says that, we then ask the age, weight, torso height, vehicle, etc.

But it's a nice quick answer to throw in there among the myriad of people who respond with "Britax xyz" when someone asks.

I agree it's not useless mantra at all. When you constantly have parents asking "what car seat is the best or is good?" You can't possibly say "get XYZ car seat, it's great!". I think it's great to repeat the "the best car seat is the one that fits your.. etc etc". It's reiterating the fact for parents that it's no point getting that seat your girlfriend has for her baby, or that $500 car seat if it can't be installed correctly in your vehicle, if you can't use it properly and if it doesn't even fit your vehicle. I always say the whole "fits your... " spiel and then this allows me to say "but XYZ car seatS might fit your needs best and they have XYZ features". It opens up the conversation and I use it all the time :)
