I am on the phone with dodge trying to see about getting tethers installed in my truck, this is the third person that I have talked to and they don't know what a tether is, I don't know how I feel about them installing them when they don't even know what the heck I'm talking about. ok so finally they looked it up and they will be 6.09 a piece and 80 dollars to install them, wow some people are not the brightest I kinda hope none of them have children, I am pretty sure they aren't riding very safely lol

Unfortunately your experience isn't unusual. Many dealerships have little or no experience retrofitting tether anchors and are a bit clueless when you call. You'll have to educate them :) Refer them to Technical Service Bulletin 23-008-00 Revision B. It has the part numbers listed. It also tells them that corporate reimburses the dealership for parts & labor, so it should be free to the customer (that's you ;)).

Good luck, and come on back if they still give you problems. Lots of us have gone through the same thing.

I have a 98 Chevy Malibu and my dealer said it would be $160 for parts and labor to install ONE tether. So, we ordered 2 kits @ 27.50 a piece. DH can do it. It' just drilling the filler panel in the back and placing the screws.

Luckily the dealership had a clue what I meant about tethers.

I wanted to get a Y86 harness for my DN to use in my T & C van. From what I heard installing anchors in a minivan is a pain in the butt. Defrost gave me the down low on the Y86.:)

We have an older Ford Taurus from the 'pre baby' days. When we found out we were pregnant with DS I called our dealership and they said 'bring it on it' no charge for the first one at least.
When we found out we were pregnant with DS1 we called and they said 'bring it on in' no charge for the install :)
Unfortunately, we cannot put any additional tether anchors in our Mazda van(as per Mazda), but our Ford Dealership has been REAL good about such things! If we could only have a crystal ball when we buy a car as to what we will need in the future! chuckle

I drive a 98 dodge ram quad cab, they told me it would be 80 dollars to install all three

oh 80 for all 3? well thats not as bad. i really only need 2 for now, for the regent and the MA when it goes FF, i dont need one in the middle b/c the baby is only 3 mo so i have plenty of time before he will be FF and by then i hope to have a mini van

I got the run around too. Made many phone calls before finding a dealership that knew what the heck they were talking about....or more to the point, what I was talking about! I had to buy the two tether anchors up front (about $20 for two) but as soon as they were in I made the apt for them to be installed and when I got there they knew all about the reimbursement program and credited my debit card back for the anchors I had to buy. It was a PITA but I am glad I did it for my daycare.

I educated the Toyota dealership here--they had no clue. Previous car owner with a 4 year old and an 8 year old never had them installed/didn't know about getting them installed.

NO WAY! GM installs one for free. I have the documentation I can send you for it.

I got 2 installed in my 96 Chevy Corsica free of charge. It's been a few years though (William was a baby when I did it).

And for the OP - Chrysler should install them for free as well - we got them in our Town & Country.

Call back with the TSB # the previous poster(s) gave you.

I guess I should say, they will install 1 for free because corporate GM says so. After that, they can install more for free if they want. I had two put in my Saturn years ago for free too.

Dodge should install your tethers for free. It's not complicated, we installed one ourselves with the $13 kit before we learned they should be free. Then we went back and had them install the other 2 for free.
