Which Britax for 2005 Ford Freestyle

I have the 2005 Ford Freestyle and I want to buy a new Britax during the one week sale for my 4 month old daughter. I'm considering the Marathon and the Boulevard. Does anyone have any experience with fit and ease of installation with my vehicle. I currently have the Chicco KeyFit 30 infant seat. It was very easy and fits. With my DS I had a Roundabout, but that was 6 years ago and with a 4 door Blazer.

Do you have bench or captains chairs in the middle row?

I have a freestyle (LOVE IT!) and I have not had any problems with installing my Marathon or any seat in my freestyle. I have middle bench. My kids are 6 and 10 now so I haven't installed any seats rear facing.

Any of the Britax seats should install with ease. The Marathon or any of its clones are alot taller in the shell than the roundabout so when installing facing forward you will need to remove the headrest. I remove it and re-insert it backwards so that it does not interfere with the install.

I have the bench seat in the middle row. I never thought about have to take off the head rest when it needs to be turned forward facing. I'll probably put her in the middle then with the seat belt. I feel better using latch when she is this small. I wish they had put the latch connectors in the middle seat. That is my one big complaint about the Freestyle. Otherwise I love it. I have a 6 year old as well, but he is too big for a seat now. He's a big boy at 56" and 102 lbs. I have to have him in a regular seatbelt now and he sits in the middle. One because the way the belt fits across his shoulder and two because he can help with his Sissy if she needs something.

I would keep the baby outboard rear facing and your son in the middle seat. My 10 year old is about the same size as your 6 year old! Chances are that your son will still not pass the 5 step test in the outboard seats and the rule of thumb is to put the least protected child, your 6 year old, in the most protected spot. Your child in the car seat is much more protected that your child in a seat belt.

My 10 year old uses a backless Clek in the outboard seat. He does pass the 5 step test in the middle bench and the back row. My car has airbags in all three rows so I am fine with him outboard at his age.

I have an 05 Freestyle as well. I have installed a RA, MA and Regent and haven't had to remove the headrests with any of the seats. I have 2nd row captains chairs, not sure if that makes a difference or not, though. You can just push the headrests up so they don't interfere. Mine don't "lock in" backwards, so I wouldn't recommend that :)
