I think I'm going to go look at a 98 subuaru forrester today that I found on cl. So I need to know the lowdown on this car and if my efta will fit ffing. And anything else you feel I should know:whistle:

FFing should be fine. The 1998 will have a lap belt in the center, and no headreast in the center, so it is not a good seating position once your child moves into a booster.

I find outboard seatbelt installs in my Forester really easy (except for the lack of RFing room), so if you want to install outboard, it's a piece of cake.

I had a 99 Forester, but I've never installed an EFTA in anything. Do you know which trim line it is? You should be able to get top tether anchors installed in it.

The center position has a very long buckle stalk, which makes it hard to install anything in there, even with three twists. Definitely take the EFTA to test it out. But as mimeliza said, outboard installations are easy. I've had a Snugride RF in the center, a Roundabout RF and FF both center and outboard, and a Marathon FF outboard.

I thought it was a great car, and was a little sad to give it up.

Good luck!

The 98 may also not have top tether anchors in place, but you can get (buy) them from a Subaru dealer- on my 1998 Legacy Outback wagon they just screwed into predrilled/threaded spots in the roof in the cargo area. When I got one (only had one forward-facing child while I had the Suburu) in 2004 or so it was ~$25.
